we had the "be careful" talk about drugs and HIV. And that was thursday night. Hasn't been a mention of it since, though I'm fine with that...

6. depends what you are looking for |
|
if you want 2 hours of great effects without having to think much, then this one may do the trick. If you are expecting the next Lord of the Rings or Raiders of the Lost Ark, you'll be disappointed.

10. It was like Independence Day, but still enjoyable. |
|
You just have to watch it with, maybe a pillar of salt.
The special effects were very good, and the guy that played the VP looked and acted incredibly like Cheney.
It will probably be worth a watch on DVD.

11. No, it is a poor movie |
|
It had no real plot, and it was still filled with quite a bit of junk science.
While Global warming is a real life occurance, what happened Meterologically in the movie totally ignores real life Atmospheric Science.
It was of course based on an Art Bell book, so that is why it fails there.
It would be much better had they not gone the "Twister" route in making the movie. Twister is also a joke movie in the Meterology community based on the unrealisitc science shown.

16. In light of recent events, I think it could be a bit depressing. |
|
It's about global warming catastrophies.
Personally, If I'm just looking for background chatter, a little bit of comedy or sci-fi might be a better bet. Given the whole NOLA thing, I'd be awake all night with flakey apocalyptic dreams after such a flick.

17. if you want a timely "disaster movie" take on global warming ... |
|
... see if you can get a copy of "The Fire Next Time". There's a scene where they're evacuating Louisiana ... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105998/

subpar acting...but what saves it is its "bad science." I gotta admit, being a geologist, I collect bad geology movies....go for the twofer of Day After Tomorrow and Volcano.

if you have any natural disaster related PSTD i certainly don't advise it
doesn't seem like it would be very pleasant viewing at the moment
actually they destroy los angeles and new york, you know, places where they have movie studios!

. . . the shame is that it might be the best thing on TV right now, if you need to watch some fantasy and escape; which I do.

Even the effects are lame-assed.
I don't mind a good disaster epic, but it has to have either a plot OR good effects. Both are a rare combination, and an admittedly unrealistic expectation.
TDAT has neither.

In retrospect, I would have been better off reading even the trashiest mystery.
(On the way over, I saw the remake of The Stepford Wives. That was even worse.)

you KNOW exactly what's going to happen about four scenes ahead...)
