I need to hold as many ping pong balls as possible with a manilla folder. |
|
I get only the manilla folder and the ping pong balls cannot touch. How do I hold as many ping pong balls as possible?

4. The folder must be held by one hand. |
|
The manilla folder needs to hold as many ping pong balls as possible. I can cut it, put holes in it, do anything I want with it as long as only the folder is holding the ping pong balls, meaning no glue, tape, or staples. It has to be held by one hand, and the ping pong balls cannot touch each other.

7. Hmm, I'd say cutting holes somehow... |
|
I'm thinking quarter-sized holes with centers a little further apart than the diameter of the balls, like a stereo speaker grille, and some sort of tricky fold on the edge to keep it rigid, then you hold it like a serving tray from below with your fingers spread wide to distribute the support as much as possible.
Maybe even cut it in half and make a double decker?
Sounds like fun... what class is it for?

Doing a unit on design, and he wants to teach us to think about things and do it right the first time.
The class is loaded with bratty little freshman, and I'm the only senior in the class. The only reason I took it is because I want to take Computer Repair - I couldn't get it last year and over the summer they added this as a prerequisite after changing the curriculum around a bit.
Anyways, my partner and I drew squares and cut the square into triangles - two to face down and two to face up. Each square holds a ping pong ball. Even better is that the ping pong balls do not touch the table, so we don't need to think of a way to hold it!

10. yeah, i'd go through and cut the folder in half, then... |
|
cut ping pong sized holes in each of the sides, as close as possible, then, you can hold one side between two fingers and the other between 2 more, and maybe something could be done with the extra material to hold even more...
