Ow ow ow...my tooth is killing me... |
|
I have one horrible toothache.
Yes, I don't take care of my teeth.
And I hate with a passion dentists. Their needles, the novacaine, etc.
I have an appointment, next Thursaday. I'm using Anbesol and Tylenol 3's for the pain, but shit, it hurts.

I use the Anbesol so at the very least I can eat.
But it feels like someone is jabbing an ice pick into that tooth.

5. Let me suggest that, hatred aside, you ABSOLUTELY have to see a dentist |
|
TOMORROW.
You could otherwise end up with an infection that will cause you to lose permanent use of your jaw, maybe even lose your jaw, make you totally fucking dog sick, and possibly even kill you.
Also, I found out recently that dentists haven't used Novacaine for about 25 years. They use something else, and the oral surgeon told me but I don't remember. He also told me that dentists don't bother trying to tell people what the new stuff is because even when the patients knew, they still called it Novacaine, so eventually the dentists gave up and just say "and now I'm going to numb you" or something.
I found that very interesting.

6. i had the same problem |
|
i have all 4 wisdom teeth coming in at once and it created about 3 cavaties in my molars. i have to get them all removed :(
before now i was taking Tylenol, Nuprin, Advil, Motrin, anything I could find and NONE OF IT WORKED!!! the pain was unbearable.
my dentist gave me vicodin though, and it really helps the pain and is very relaxing. i take it (as well as penecillin) until i get the surgery.
actually, the vicodin works so well i'm trying not to get addicted

I used to be real coward about going to the dentist, but I found a great Dentist, dental work shouldn't hurt.
I wish I could send you one of my pain pills.

8. Next Thursday? as in over a week? |
|
call them tomorrow. Tell them it's worse. They should see you sooner than that. Use an ice pack wrapped in a towel tonight. Dentistry has changed so much in the past few years. I just went in today to get work started on a crown. I remember when the tooth was filled almost 30 years ago. The novacaine was several shots and numbed half my face and I couldn't talk. Today, it was one tiny shot. The dentist people have messed with the structure of the molecule, and it is much more precise and much less painful. I could barely tell I'd had work done getting out of the chair-one little numb spot on the roof of my mouth. And the full feeling was back in about half an hour. It toally puts me to sleep an hour or so later...
Good Luck. It's REALLY not that bad anymore.

It helped me so much when I had dry socket...
The trouble with Anbesol-type medications is that it seems to hurt more after they wear off.
Drink lots of water and avoid salty foods. You might also consider taking guaifenesin (non-drying decongestant) to keep water-retention down. I've also placed an aspirin tablet over the bad tooth and just let it dissolve; and it often works well.
Hope you feel better!
