OMFG Last Night I was accused of being a Republican!!!!!
OK, so last night I played a game of Monopoly(tm) with my sister's fiance and two other friends. Needless to say, I wipped them, and wipped them bad, but I developed a little attitude during the game while winning. OK, so I acted a little greedy and selfish, and so they labeled me of being a bloody Republican, as an insult. These are young adults, around 21 years of age. So the question is, should I turn in my Socialist Membership Card yet?

7. Well you know, it was two Dems who led us to victory in the 2 greatest...
...wars in the history of the World. If someones going to take us on, they better be ready to play for keeps...;-)

13. Too true...
I get very competitive in games, board, card, or video, and I'm good at all of them too, not to brag or anything. ;)

15. and it was a Republican
who voted against US entry into both of them. Jeanette Rankin of Montana who only served two terms in Congress. She said "you can no more win a war than you can win an earthquake". Those wars were not great. I sort of agree with Poul Anderson, who wrote "The French Empire could have brought Europe together, and could have been liberalized from within. and there might have been no World War I in which Western civilization cut its own throat. Because that's what happened, you know. We're still busy bleeding to death, but we haven't far to go now."

Those were two of the most horrifying wars in the history of the world, not 'the greatest'. Only Ali is that, because he went to jail instead of to war.

16. You misread. Not "greatest" in the sense of "rah rah" great....
...but great in the sense of the two largest conflagrations in the history of the world. WWI was, arguably, avoidable on our part. WWII, probably not. But the argument for either, would take more time and space than we have here in the Lounge. Much better suited for the World History Group here on DU.

17. well WWII was avoidable if we had not let Clemenceau
run wild with vindictiveness and hatred of Germans. but "biggest" would be more appropriate than "greatest". I quoted Poul not about the avoidability of the German wars, but about how WWI was Western civilization cutting it's own throat. Fantastic book though "There will be Time" by Poul Anderson.

19. In theory, yes it may have been avoidable if the allies had been more...
...lenient in the peace treaty talks after WWI, but we'll never know. As for "we" being able to stop them, thats arguable. We weren't the ones who were bled dry, as the French and English were in WWI. We were in no position to tell them what the post-war structure of Europe was going to be. In addition, Wilson was undermined here at home, which gave him even less credentials overseas.

By the time Hitler became a fact, war was inevitable, by his own design.

As for the word "great", I have no reason to redact it. Webster's dictionary defines it as "more than ordinary size, extent, volume, etc." That certainly describes those two wars. I have no problem with you substituting it with whatever word you want.

8. when my brother and I played
our goal was to break the bank. Of course, we did not read or follow the rules either. We built hotels on our properties whether we owned all of a set or not. So he could have a hotel on Boardwalk, and I could have one on Park Place.

You may have whipped them, but did you beat the bank?

9. Nope, sad to say I didn't, but my ending balance was...
17,516 dollars, not too shabby for me, considering that for a good half of the game, I had the 2 utilities and one set of properties for hotels and stuff, started the game horribly.

27. I always used to lose Monopoly
But not because I'm liberal. It's because I was shitfaced drunk and didn't see my friends passing monopoly money and properties back and forth under the table. And yes, both of them have claimed to be Republicans at least once.
