Names for this Scandal
I like paininthearse's suggestion of...

FLOODGATE

Even though I usually hate just sticking "gate" on the end of things.

What do you think?

4. The Waterbowl
The way people are being sent out in a mass diaspora reminds me of the Dustbowl-Grapes of Wrath style. And NOLA has been referred to as a bowl through all of this...

7. Maybe just the name "Katrina" will be powerful enough in the coming years
for people to remember how horrific the disaster was.

It's not going to be a very popular name for a long long time.

9. On second thought I think just invoking the name "Katrina" will be enough
to bring to mind all the details without having any sort of "gate" involved.

But for a "gate" I think "Floodgate" works well.

13. yes...
Though of course here's my dumb luck, it's a flood that triggers my ranting--the one time a "gate" makes sense. Sometimes, I just have to laugh at myself. :D

11. I think it's just easy to use "-gate" as the default
What about "The George Bush Affair?" Or is that only reserved for Democrats, because who'd have sex with a Resmuglican anyway (borrowed from Jonathan Alter 9-7-05)?

it's put on to everything and it loses all value.

Ha! The George Bush Affair...ew. Resmuglican! Ha!

How about, "The Clusterfuckening of America?" Or is that too "blue" for middle America?
