By the way, I DID re-lactate! |
|
I know this is TMI for a lot of you. But it's pretty wild. I kept wondering if I would be able to re-lactate if I were trapped in New Orleans or the area, with no food and water and nothing to give my baby. And I kept worrying about and visualizing all those hungry babies.
Well, I ended up re-lactating. So I guess that answers that question. Pretty weird, huh? My son was weaned almost 6 months ago.
If I'd gone down there, I probably could have fed someone else's kid.

I never even imagined such a thing. :wow:
Good thing there seems to be a cut-off point, as 5 years out I remain high and dry. :D

2. Funny story...with TMI as well. |
|
That happened to me when James was 2, and he was weaned at 9 months...I thought something was really wrong, like the big C. Needless to say, that was an embarassing visit to the Dr. :hi:

5. But what's really funny... |

But thanks for posting. I was kind of amazed and wanted to share.

3. I still have small leaks |

(just little drops) and my daughter is now five. My OB said that some bigger-breasted women will keep producing small amounts for many years to come.

I was so scared when it first happened. I called the OB/Gyn's office and made an appointment. She told me that it sometimes happens but still made me go through a ton of tests, just to be safe. Then she told me that I could always go for a career as a wetnurse.

12. I was driving my husband crazy... |
|
...I kept saying, what if we were trapped in a convention center with nothing to feed Garrison, what if that were our baby?
It's just so overwhelming--I had a whole-body response.

Good for you...and good for you for telling us this great news...
As a nurse, and as a mom who nursed both my daughters, I applaud you!

I know some people are embarrassed by breast feeding, but that never stopped me from talking about it, or from breastfeeding anywhere, anytime Garrison was hungry.
But I'm not trying to embarrass people on purpose, I just do and talk about what comes naturally.
;-)
Thanks.

14. True story--a friend was going through horrible mental and emotional |
|
abuse from her husband. He was brilliant and figured out a way to steal her son from her. She was so upset she began to lactate. Her son was 10 at the time. Really.

I don't think it's too much information, but then again, I plan on becoming a lactation consultant once I'm an RN. Boobs are amazing. I've heard of people adopting years after they had their last baby (even in some people who've never given birth) and relactating/lactating. I haven't breastfed in about two years, but I did the same thing about six months ago and got a drop or two. I suppose I probably could even now, but I lack the time and motivation. If someone wants milk out of these puppies, they're going to have to work pretty darned hard. :P
p.s. Anyone who thinks it's TMI has obviously never triumphed over sore nipples! :D

I think becoming a lactation consultant is awesome. A lot of people don't realize that breastfeeding is learned behavior. And we don't live in the same house with our mothers and grandmothers anymore--or even the same neighborhoods. New mothers who plan to nurse really do need some guidance.
You rule.
