Damn- One of my corning dishes blew up on top of the stove!
I was cooking some chicken quarters in my flat top range/oven and had it on hi broil. I turned off the broil and moved the dish on top of the stove to put the foil back on so I could return it for the final 10 minutes at 350 degrees. I had just turned to get the foil and the dish blew up into a thousand chunks! My dogs are pretty fast so they got out before the glass hit the floor. They did hang around to help me out by barking loudly at the offending dish. I have never heard of a corning dish blowing up like that! It had been in the oven so it wasn't cold.

4. It wasn't a very cool explosion.
No fire, no dark black smoke rolling up, no mushroom cloud, no shock wave. It did have shrapnel though!

2. Look out for ..
.... those sudden temperature changes. They will wreck pyrex/corning :)

3. I guess that isn't just a theory.
I wish I would have known that about 30 minutes ago! On the positive side of things, I don't have to wash it now!
