Dirk appreciation thread

I killed this guy so many damn times, and he would do it all again just for two quarters.

I never let him get the Princess either....I just wasn't good enough.

Here's to you, Dirk.

1. That was such a boring as fuck video game
it was visually exciting, yeah sure, digital laser disc, yada yada yada, but the game play was fucking abysmal.

2. It was good when it came out

I was in like 4th or 5th grade then. It was fun as hell when you were that age.

3. Well, I was in high school, and I thought it sucked
visually cool, absolutely.

But the game play didn't involve play at all - it involved figuring out what combination of joystick moves allowed one to live.

Seriously - and this is absolutely true - the video portion could simply have been, at every scene, a black screen with the words "Choose a joystick position".

Given enough quarters, eventually one would figure out the 100 joystick movement pattern essential to "win".

5. I agree....the gameplay sucked, but as a kid it was cool

I wasn't so picky then as I am now. Back then good graphics and sound were good enough for me.

It's a horrible game by today's standards, but back then it was a big hit, and a bunch of us kids had fun with it.

LOL....and I never did figure out the whole joystick pattern...and I used a lot of quarters. However, I kicked ass at Q-Bert, Donkey Kong, and Robotron. Also, when I was in the Marines, I got very good at Street Fighter II and Samurai Showdown. That was the end of the coin-op phase for me, though.

8. Plus you weren't killing anyone
Just dropping buns or tossing salt on little hotdogs, pickles, or fried eggs. I loved the little sound when you ran out of salt....
