Santorum Sings!
Center City composer Tom Wilson Weinberg says he had grown "numbed out" listening to what he calls a "repetitive message" from Pennsylvania's junior Republican senator.

"It became so predictable, one almost doesn't hear it anymore," says Weinberg, whose credits include Ten Percent Revue and Get Used to It!

Weinberg, 60, wrote an hour's worth of songs, in a variety of styles, to accompany Santorum's speeches and writings about such topics as abortion, stem-cell research, gay marriage, faith-based initiatives, the Pope and Terri Schiavo. (In "Err on the Side of Life," for example, Santorum expresses his disappointment that Schiavo wasn't kept on life support; in a reprise the refrain is juxtaposed with his support for the invasion on Iraq.)

The result is The Teachings of Chairman Rick: A Musical Filibuster, which will be staged by a cast of three next week at the William Way Community Center in Center City.
