Newport Beach area - how affordable is it?
cross-posted in California...

I was just contacted about a job in Newport Beach, CA. When going online to homefair.com, it says my wife & I would basically need to more than double our salaries to live an equivalent life out there.... and, we live in Connecticut. (granted, not on the Gold Coast in CT) My wife would like to move to CA, but would also need to find a new job... but, we'd be much closer to her family in China as well. (of course, away from my family in CT)

But, are there any towns or small cities near Newport Beach that are easily commutable and good for a young family, and also more affordable?

Thanks

1. The conservative epicenter of Orange County, John Waynes-ville
but you wouldn't live in NB anyways,it is an extended metropolitan area with many surrrounding communities.

I don't know what is more affordable, but then real estate is ridiculous everywhere out there right now. Expect to live considerably far inland if you wish to live for less.

It's been 10 years since I lived in LA, but the commute was bad back then on I-5, headed north/south.

7. hope you're going to be making tons of dough
median price of homes in Oranbge County is half a million. Newport Beach will probably cost you a million quite easily.
