I'm gonna be single in a very short time and I don't see any reason why not to try the web thing. I've heard several people say match.com is good and I've heard that eharmony is right wing. I know there are some lefty sites like democraticsingles.com but are they really as good as match? I mean, I don't need to date someone as political as me so long as they're not a Bushista. THoughts?

It's been a few weeks since I gave 'em a shout-out, but ten years ago it was good enough for my wife to find me. Bliss ever since, and frankly I don't much care whether the service is any good now.

3. Dating sites

I think the net is a great place to meet people but you get a lot of writing and seldomly a good visual impression (except for an outdated or a fake photo).

I would strongly recommend to go to a site like this where you can at least lift the T-shirt a little to see what you get. Move your mouse over the shirt in case of interest.

I think the success of a given site depends on where you are in the country. My West Coast cousin met her husband via Yahoo, which yielded mostly losers for me here in the Northeast.

I didn't care for eHarmony (some people get excellent results), but I didn't get the sense that it was right wing.

On virtually any site, you can indicate your political views and preferences.

6. Match.com is bent

When Match.com changed their policy so that you'd have to pay in order to respond to someone who initiated contact, they went crooked. If they weren't already. I received some silly message from someone without a profile begging me to reply. The day after the policy change. I suspect the message originated from the Match offices.

I also suspect they keep alive many abandoned profiles as padding.

So I learned to be content as a solitaire. Though I have alive profile with Nerve (aka Act for Love, The Onion Personals and others) which seems on the up and up.
