I can not and will no longer buy from Starbucks

much less enter their stores.

I was on the phone just now, and drinking my coffee.

I took the heat guard off the cup, just keeping my free hand busy.

Underneath I found this bullshit (just going to type the first sentence):

The Way I See It #22

Everywhere, unthinking mobs of "independent thinkers" wield tired chiches like cudgels, pummeling those who dare question "enlightened" dogma.

6. Even when it's not burned, it's just shitty coffee.
That's why when I used to go, I'd always order a mocha or something . . . it killed the taste of the crappy coffee.

34. All politicians cater to the highest bidder. (hear me out)
I no longer give a damn as to who supports whom.

I will still write to them and complain when they do something I disagree with. They have the dollars to give corporations therefore they are the ones I will promise not to shop for anymore AND tell all my friends to do the same.

Perhaps if more people stoped blindly following any one banner and start a real grassroots campaign we could still be an influence. Until then, they will treat us as nothing BECAUSE we all kneel to our banners and do nothing more.

11. Ha ha ha ha ha!
Starbucks has managed to piss off both left and right with this campaign. Pretty funny. An awful lot of the quotes they use on their cups are liberal.

(snip)
A national Christian women's organization is accusing the Seattle-based coffee maker of promoting a homosexual agenda because of a quote by author Armistead Maupin, whose "Tales of the City" chronicled San Francisco's homosexual community in the 1970s and 1980s.

Maupin's quote — one of several dozen in "The Way I See It" promotion — says his only regret about being gay is that he repressed it for so long.

"I surrendered my youth to the people I feared when I could have been out there loving someone. Don't make that mistake yourself. Life's too damn short."

Concerned Women for America, which promotes itself as the antithesis of the National Organization for Women and boasts 8,700 supporters in Washington, says most of those quoted on the coffee cups are liberal.

There was some talk of them boycotting Starbucks, or at least that's what I read in one of the Seattle papers.

Their coffee sucks, if you ask me.

For gods sake, its just a cup of friggin coffee, they sell it for 99 cents in a jumbo (el grande for you saps)cup. I never understood the starbuck cache, just seemed like a place for people to feel hip overpaying for a cup of coffee at a chain store.

23. LOL! Starbucks sucks, but the quotes go both left and right.
I only drink tea myself, but I was buying one the other day when some guy barged up to the counter pissed off about some reichwing screed on his cup. The clerk grabbed his cup, poured his coffee into a new one (with a quote about being a happy gay, no less), and handed it back. After he walked off, the clerk told me that it happens once or twice a day.

It's misplaced anger, IMO. Starbucks is a Blue company, and this campaign simply reprints dozens of quotes from thinkers across the political spectrum. If you found the right wing quote offensive, you should have just walked back over and asked for a new cup.

Don't boycott Starbucks because of their politics, boycott Starbucks because their coffee tastes like ass.

30. Confessions from a "latte" junkie:
I blame Starbucks, (often) for a whole lot of drivers forgetting the word "courtesy" around here. (Starbucks home turf, the Seattle area). I too was a part of this but since switching to decaf tea, life flows at a nicer pace. Back when I was a 2-3 "Grande Vanilla Latte-a-day person, my driving skills reflected this. EVERYONE was in my way damn-it, I was in an incredible hurry to get from points A to points B. It did not matter that either point was unimportant, just the getting there, and I drove like it was an emergency!
Coffee is mildly addictive and Starbucks exploited this back in the mid-late ninety's in order to create it's own kingdom. It may have tasted like orangutan piss but at least it was consistent orangutan piss. I suspected then that it would have been a good stock investment. (Glad I didn't for the same reasons I am glad to not have invested in Phillip-Morris).
I imagine a cultural anthropology major could do a fine paper on the Starbucks phenomenon. There are "latte stands" on every corner these days, the espresso-machine has become a common home appliance.
We have traded in our "Valiums" for a "half-caff-extra skinny-low-fat-breve", (pun intended barrista-types). Starbucks did that to us! I am not so sure this is a good thing, perhaps like the hoola-hoop, this too will pass.

33. I blame my employer.
Back in the go-go 90s my tech company put a cappucino machine in. None of the other frou-frou from those days remains, but that did. I believe if they took it out we would all nap for a week.

But, gosh, I love caffeine. Nothing like it to pep you up and help you crank out the work. :D

36. It was a good investment
I made hundreds off of them in a short time. I always figured I made more off of them than they did me.

But their coffee is fine. I think when people complain about it being bitter, it is because:

1. They are pussies about coffee.

and/or

2. The store in question makes it wrong, maybe not cleaning the maker out often enough or grinding it too fine. What can one expect from a tattooed, over-pierced, blue-hair-dyed slacker loser who hates their job?

I have had good coffee in a Starbucks, and bad. Bottom line, the beans are decent, if you grind and brew them for yourself. I have had ALL of the major chains, and dozens of independents, and the differences are greater WITHIN a brand than BETWEEN them.

But I absolutely love their coffee. I'm a junkie for strong coffee and especially for latte (4-shots) and cappucino. I don't go often because of the price but to me it's the liquid equivalent of sex.
