14. He could pronounce it as 'fred' and it'd be the legal pronunciation. |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 03:28 PM by TahitiNut
No matter how anyone else might pronounce a person's name, the person themself has the complete authority over its pronunciation. If that weatherman wants to pronounce his own name as 'seen' when spelled S-e-a-n, then that's exactly how it's pronounced.
My (middle) name is spelled M-i-c-h-a-e-l and if I decided it was to be pronounced as "judy" then that would be it!
On edit: For what it's worth, T-a-h-i-t-i-N-u-t is pronounced as "handsome," so make sure you spell it as 'TahitiNut' and sound it as 'handsome'!

I lived for years in an Irish neighborhood, with plenty of immigrants, and even with a heavy accent it was never pronounced "seen".

And not one pronounced it "seen".
Another common name is "Seamus", which translates to "James", and it is pronounced "Shay-mus" -- not "see-mus".

50. actually Colon is probably closer to the original Irish pronunciation |
|
of Colin...ie "Co-leen".
Perhaps some Irish people emigrated to the states way back before the Anglicization of their names had been standardised...
Though I have to say "Seen" for "Sean" is a first for me.
