United's new discount airline will be known as ...........Ted

United Airlines confirmed Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, that its new discount airline, part of the company's business strategy to restructure from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, will be called 'Ted.' An artist's drawing shows the new airline's paint scheme on an Airbus 320 . Ted will be based at Denver International Airport and start flying in February 2004. (AP Photo/United Airlines, HO)

7. I'm guessing that they will have a "Ted" in their commercials
They will try to seel it like Southwest used to with their owner (name?)

"Fly _____'s airline he needs the money"

Something like that. Give it a face that people will remember and humanize it.

5. Yeah I know
Not only that do I think Ted is a stupid name, nobody's gonna believe it's called Ted. Here's what one scenario would look like.

Boss: OK, time for you to go to *mumble* for some *mumble* - find a cheap airfare, and I'll reimburse you.
Employee: OK. I'll come back and let you know.

A week later

Boss: OK, do you have the receipts I need to reimburse you?
Employee: Here boss.
Boss: *looks at receipts*
Boss: You flew Ted? Do you mean, you flew with Ted from Accounting?
Employee: No, no, boss - you told me to find cheap airfare, and I used Ted to fly. It's a low cost carrier from United.
Boss: Uh-huh. Sorry, no can do. I'll reimburse you for other things, but I sure ain't reimbursing you for Ted. Take it up with Ted from Accounting.

There you have it. I predict a fast death of "Ted". At least call it United El-Cheapo or something nicer, but sure as hell not Ted.

Speaking of which, I've been in downtown Denver, and I'm seeing morons on Segeway with a sign that says "Not Ted". Great way to promote Ted, but also a huge waste of $$.
