Twenty- six miles across the sea
Santa Catalina is a-waitin' for me
Santa Catalina, the island of romance, romance, romance, romance

Water all around it everywhere
Tropical trees and the salty air
But for me the thing that's a-waitin' there-romance

It seems so distant, twenty-six miles away
Restin' in the water serene
I'd work for anyone, even the Navy
Who would float me to my island dream

Twenty- six miles, so near yet far
I'd swim with just some water-wings and my guitar
I could leave the wings but I'll need the guitar for romance, romance, romance,
romance

Twenty- six miles across the sea
Santa Catalina is a-waitin' for me
Santa Catalina, the island of romance

A tropical heaven out in the ocean
Covered with trees and girls
If I have to swim, I'll do it forever
Till I'm gazin' on those island pearls

Forty kilometers in a leaky old boat
Any old thing that'll stay afloat
When we arrive we'll all promote romance, romance, romance, romance

Twenty- six miles across the sea
Santa Catalina is a-waitin' for me
Santa Catalina, the island of romance, romance, romance, romance

Twenty- six miles across the sea
Santa Catalina is a-waitin' for me

Your earworm for tonight................ ;-)

1. Beats the hell outta "Blue Money" which Havocdad has been singing all week
My dad wanted to take Catalina over and declare war on the US a la The Mouse That Roared... I said, "Dad, just get out your sax and play that song..."

3. Thank you so much, my dear bushwentawol...
Being a Southern Calif girl, this is a song that I can definitely identify with!

On the days when the air is clear (more than you might think!), you can see Catalina (as we call it) floating on the glittering sea...

It is sooo beautiful...Some time I must get into a spot where I can get a good shot of it, and post it for you...

Thanks for the great earworm!

5. You're very welcome Peggy!
I'd love to see a pic. Better yet I'd love to go there. The song sounds so peaceful and serene. For some reason it's stuck in my head. Better than Judas Priest I suppose. ;-)

6. It does make a lovely day trip....or a week's vacation....
I've been out there, but only once, for the day...And I got dreadfully seasick on the way...

It is an interesting place, and lots of history, and lovely sights too...

I prefer to see it from a distance...I couldn't tell you why...

Maybe because then my illusions about it won't be shattered...

7. I don't think I've even seen pics of it.
From the song it sounds like this never never land where people go to forget their regular lives.

They have to be JUST right...it does take a magnificent pic under the correct circumstances...

11. Ooohh..my dear Capn Sunshine!
These are beautiful...thank you so much!

I'm going to take one of Catalina from the shore here...

I LOVE how sometimes the mist on the water makes the island look as though it's floating above the water...

Or the days when the water glitters amazingly...and there are little sailboats about...

I LOVE your pics...did you take them?

 :hi:
