Found out something sad tonight
My mom's dog has cancer...it is inoperable...he is on painkillers until he can no longer function, then he will be put down.

This dog is a cocker spaniel, pekingese, poodle, and will be 14 in December...

2. Oh, wow. I'm so sorry, KW.
My parents' little dog is sort of like a "sister" to me, and I know the hell they're going to go through when her time comes.

Love, guidance and protection to your parents and their boy.

5. Oh no--I'm so sorry!
 How is your mom handling it? It's so hard to find this out about their loved ones...

A very good friend of ours went through this a few years ago. They could treat it, but the treatment would have been very long, and painful--he couldn't put his little guy through that--and laid him down. Still breaks my heart. He was family to all of us...

I'm very sorry about this.

6. My mom is currently pragmatic about it
Not too much emotion yet....she is more concerned about how my 4 year old is going to take it.

I know how it feels to have to put a pet down. Something similar happened to our dog "Babe". She got cancer and had to be put down. We all cried and cried. I'm soooooo sorry.

15. Poor baby. But I am sure he had a happy life.
14 years is a long life for a dog.

18. My dear KitchenWitch.....
This is always hard news to bear....

But it might help to remember that our pets are helpless in the face of such pain and illness....

They rely on us to take care of them, and to put them down when their lives become unbearably painful and difficult...

We must relieve their suffering when the joy is gone from their lives, no matter how much it hurts us...

They trust us to take care of them...and we must not fail in that duty...

Nonetheless, it is hard...I've been there...blessings on the pooch and those entrusted with his care...
