Seems a water moc had dropped from a limb into his boat. He was so shook up he pulled out a revolver and punched 6 big holes in the bottom. Missed the snake entirely.

I was fishing on the Chatahoochee River in GA once. I reached back to cast and found a water moccasin stretching toward me from a near by bush. I'm not sure how I got to the other bank, but I can assure you it didn't take long.

21. Back in the 50's after Hurricane Hazel

My father was on a ship in the Merchant Marine. Sailing in the Gulf after the hurricane, the water was filled with snakes. They had to hose them off the side of the ship as they tried to climb aboard.

or mombas (only found in Africa), they are harmless. I am a former snake owner. Had boas and some of those snakes could be pets that got loose during the flood.

Unlikely they'd migrate into NO, but possible. If you drive through LA and south Miss on secondary roads, watch for low shadows and slow down. I've often come up on gators warming themselves on the road at night.

I'm not afraid of many animals. But those are aggressive at best. After a hurricane, way beyond pissed off.

And very, very poisonous.

Raised here in the Gulf Coast, I was taught from an early age to have a health fear/respect for the cottonmouth.

After working in the swamp in South Carolina I had snake dreams/nightmares weekly for over a year...

Finally I went out and got two snakes as pets. Then the dreams went away. :(

Triangle heads, brown underneath (when wet) and fat like a man's arm. They will attack you! I've lost two dogs to them. We had horses and they would go after the horse's legs. (we lived near a pond)

I used to drive my more "green" friends nuts complaining about them. They suggested we "move" them to another area. Right. We moved them. Permanently.

they aren't particularly territorial. If you sat in the bench by the pond and knew where to look, you could always find one. Just looking w/ binoculars you could see them swimming. Usually, they stayed put. But in dry weather they came out for some reason, which is odd because their pond was still nice and wet. And in very wet weather they decided the whole farm was their own. We always looked before we stepped down off the porch. In five years living there we probably killed eight or ten. I am not particularly afraid of snakes, even rattlers, who are rather shy and well-mannered. But I think cottonmouths are demons from hell. I'm told they don't kill humans unless it is a very small child that doesn't receive treatment. But they somehow thin out your blood and you bleed internally, which is what happened to our dogs, who we DID get to the vet.
