seen any good movies lately?
I just saw a movie poll for the latest Hollywood crap so I thought I'd ask for some alternative recommendations (rentable or for sale DVD's).
My wife and I have become very bored of the usual Hollywood fare and have taken to renting sub-titled films or other less-than-mainstream work.
Liked: Motorcycle Diaries, A very Long Engagement, Kitchen Stories.
Any others to look for?

1. Yup, understand the feeling--that's when I turned to Bollywood.

That's not for everyone though, what with the singing and dancing and the three hours, LOL. But if you're up for it, I'd suggest Veer Zaara, Lagaan (lots of non Bollywoody types seem to like that, it was nominated for an Oscar), Swades, Dil Se, and Kahbi Khushi Kabhi Gham. And basically every Shahrukh Khan picture, but that's because I love him and he's so obviously the best Bollywood actor. But I digress.

You can find most of those at Netflix, but if you're going to Blockbuster you'll probably only find Lagaan.

I really liked Talk to Her (which is Spanish, with subtitles)...All About my Mother (spanish)....I'm sure you've seen Amelie already...

2. I guess you're talking about my poll.

I'm the one who is going to the local cineplex for "the latest Hollywood crap" this afternoon.

Edited to add: I don't think there's anything wrong with asking for suggestions for quality, non-Hollywood-mainstream movies to see, I'd just rather it had been done without the snide comment about my movie choices.

5. thanks - and no offense intended
Thanks for the suggestions!
...and please, no offense intended by my critique of the latest offerings from Hollywood. Go, enjoy - I'd even offer a suggestion for your poll if I ever heard of any them!

6. You would be surprised
at how many great movies there are out there that few have ever heard of. Last week I posted a thread: "what movie did you enjoy that few have ever heard of?" It got over 100 replies. That tells us some good movies just are not being promoted as well as they deserve.
