A comical anecdote from the biography of Jock Stein.
The 20th anniversary of the death of Celtic's manager, Jock Stein, was commemorated the other day by many of his friends and admirers in the game. It was he who led the "Lisbon Lions", as they are called, to victory against Inter Milan in the European Cup - the first to be won by any British team. Extraordinarily, they were mostly ex-miners, all of whom grew up within a 30 mile radius of Glasgow.

Stephen McGowan of the Daily Mail quoted this snippet from a book by one of the "Lisbon Lions", Jim Craig.

"In his illuminating tome, 'A Lion Looks Back', Craig wrote lucidly of the tendency for Celtic's most successful ever manager to ride roughshod over democracy. A qualified dentist, the educated Dr Craig thought and said just a little too much for Stein's liking.

He gave his whole life to his craft. He lived and breathed it to a ferocious degree, said Craig. 'But he was a subtle man, too.

'At Christmas parties, he would go over and speak to my gullible wife Elizabeth for a while, and in the car home she would say to me: "The boss tells me you've been giving him a hard time."

'And of course, I'd be thinking: "I give him a hard time?" But your mother or wife will always think you're not quite right about anything, and Jock knew that". Sound familiar!!!!!?!?!?!
