What is this weird compulsion to tell others what to do?
Why do people have this deep-seated need to tell others what to do, how to live, what to believe, how to worship? I don't get it. Why can't people mind their own fricking business?

What brought this particular rant on was a dimbulb in a minivan this morning, who sped up (nearly missing her exit) so she could pull up alongside me on the freeway and waved a sign reading Trust Jesus out her window. This was apparently motivated by the Darwin fishie on the back of my car. She was obviously not paying attention to her driving while she was picketing me, as she suddenly had to slam on her brakes to take her exit ramp, but Heaven forbid (pun intended) she miss the opportunity to spam me with her religious fervor.

Now, what did she expect this to accomplish? Was I to start praying immediately? Based on the way she was driving, that might not have been such a bad idea. Does anyone actually believe that doing this kind of thing converts others to their way of thinking? and more importantly, why would anyone WANT to convert others to their way of thinking/believing/acting?

Why are we such a society of fricking busybodies?

12. Jesus would drive into a freeway barrier
so he could spam people with religious junk?

2. Dont know
But isnt the Darwin Fishie thing-kinda of anti-christian. I know early Christians used the fish thing, but the Darwin Fish thing would be evolution not creationism. I dunno, could be wrong. But I agree with you. Everybody should just mind there own bizness.

8. It's not necessarily anti-anything
It's kind of a gentle dig at people who think all knowledge begins and ends with the Bible. My ex-husband, who is a person of faith albeit not a proselytizer, has both a Christian fishie and a Darwin fishie on his car. Many Christians find no inconsistency in believing in both the Gospels and natural selection.

21. I agree with you there - as a Christian I believe both...
I think God created evolution, so that's my $.02 worth...but I don't believe in shoving my beliefs down anyone's throat, 'cos I thought this was America and we get to make such choices for ourselves...
Oops, forgot that Chimpy and his minions had trashed the Constitution, sorry!

5. you can do what an old co-worker of mine did
This was back in Seattle... a woman I worked with had a Darwin fish on her car, and someone next to her in the other lane yelled. "NOT DARWIN! JESUS!!"

My friend proceeded to fly the bird, and say, "NO... DARWIN! F*** YOU!" Mind you, my friend was about 65 or so, and looked like a kindly grandmother, lol.

Her blunt method effectively ended the inane attempt at conversion. :D

6. Yeah, I was tempted to display the universal symbol
for "you're #1!" but refrained - besides, she was about to hit the barrier and wouldn't have seen it. I just laughed at her. Well, I did yell, "oh blow me" but since the windows were closed, there's no way she heard me.

*I* don't drive around waving a sign that says Eschew Superstition at people whose cars are festooned with Jesus Junk - why do they feel compelled to wave their spam at me?

13. yeah, not effective with closed windows
This incident was in the summer.

As for your question, well, their bible impels them to convert - go out and "witness" and so forth - so they have a book to tell them to, and we don't. They believe they are "saving" us from eternal hellfire and damnation, but I suspect deep down, they don't even care about that - it is a rush for them to push others around. All about the power they wish to have, and the powerlessness they must feel in their dreadful little lives. It is a sign of their emptiness and desperation to try and change others to their way of seeing the world. On some level, they know it is absurd to hang it all up on the man-in-the-clouds and gwine to hebbin, and so it validates their absurdities to compel others to share like beliefs. Or it could be they have a chemical imbalance.

Btw, it has been raining here in Flagstaff for nearly a whole day! It looks and feels like Seattle here. :P

14. My wife gets upset when she sees those. I try to tell her
that they're harmles, or displayed by Christians who believe in Evolution (I'm one of them), but she prefers to get upset. A liberal Christian married to a fundamentalist Christian can be difficult, but it is worth it.

Except this sign would just be a hardcore porn centerfold.

Imagine waving that back at her in response to her sign.

You might have been able to make her crash, even!

If I wouldn't clean my room when my beloved mother told me to, I fail to see why anyone would think I'd change religions because some deranged fucktard barreling down the road with a sign told me to.

that's where i think it starts.
lawzy -- another fanatic on the loose -- just makes me nuts -- like driving on the free-ways isn't hazardus enough.
it could be worse though -- she could have been talking on the phone while trying to kill you both with her protest sign.
i've always suspected that jesus would have no problem with darwin.

"Why do people have this deep-seated need to tell others what to do, how to live, what to believe, how to worship? I don't get it. Why can't people mind their own fricking business?"

I blew up about this recently. Whatever I do someone has fucking something to say about it. I'm a bit of a strange person and I have a lot of idiosynchrisies (bad bad spelling). ANyway, I can't go through a day without 5 comments from people.

Drives me up the wall, I'm a nice guy and I leave people alone why can't others?

that's my rant

28. born-again
the most dangerous people in the world are the ones who have all the answers. they understand what jesus wants and he is working through them (barf). voices in the head huh? science is the enemy huh? one book is all you need huh? they recognize evil. i wont't let a born-again near my family. anyone who has sold their souls to interpretations by man and "believes" is dangerous. fundamentalism is the enemy. we are witnessing a "cult"eral revolution.

30. Evolution
The reason we evolved to be so complex is because we actively teach each other.

By actively teaching each other we are able to learn more, faster, and therefore adapt more and faster.

Don't blame them, they're just giving into their primitive instincts.
