Is there anything more tedious than phone-system training? |
|
Ugh. I just sat through an hour on how to use the new phone and voice mail system here. Including demos, in which we practiced transferring calls (hint: hit transfer, hit extension, hit transfer again), changing our voice mail greeting (press "voice mail" and follow the prompts) and...putting people on hold (guess what? It's the hold button!)
I get to sit through another hour tomorrow.
Just give me the damn manual and let me figure it out myself.
I'm dreading the company's migration to OSX -- not because I think it'll be hard to learn, but because I've been using it at home for years and training will probably take all day.

From ShellBEau's thread
I hate getting voicemail, takes forever to actually get to the message (99.9999% totally unneeded call) and if you aren't quick enough hit the 3-6 you have to go all the way back through it to get rid of the damned thing.
You have . . .
ONE voicemail . . .
Would you like to listen to your voicemails? WHY ELSE WOULD I HAVE CALLED VOICEMAIL???? . .
. Hit one to....... ONE:argh:
You have one voicemail :grr: . . . First voicemail . . .

3. Ouch. When we switched, we just got the manual. |
|
I guess the figured that if you can't figure out how to answer and transfer yourself, you probably shouldn't be working here...

who handels theese conversions and has to prepare the documentation including demos, to explain how to use the stuff. You would be surprised how many well paid people cannot follow simple instructions on their own.
Oh and he loves spending his day explaining how to use a telephone. He really does'nt have anything more important to do. :sarcasm:
I am with you on this. What a waste of time.

5. CRAP! That reminds me, I have it on Friday |

We're ditching our old phone system and going to VoIP at the end of this month. We're also moving to a brand new building, so I'm sure that not only will the phones not work, the network won't work either.
Yeah I'm filled with confidence. But then again I work in IT.

6. Yes, being a phone-system trainer |
|
I don't speak from experience though, I've only trained people on software. In my job though, it's a rare day with a group of just 10 people that I don't have at least one of each:
1. academic oriented, attentive and ready to learn 2. already knows some of the material but cooperates 3. already knows some of the material but does not cooperate 4. whispering buddies who blame me later 5. too important, busy and distracted 6. someone who I wonder how they find their way back home at night
2 & 3 are actually the easiest because they don't ask questions and avoid eye contact. However I still have to use inflection or startling words or jokes to surprise them into paying attention for key/crucial information. See if you can identify your co-workers when you migrate to OSX, it's fun!
