4. Do they come in a larger size or a package thats not individually wrapped |
|
We used to make caramel coated apples with krafts, but it takes too damn long to unwrap a dozen bags of these things (we have a big party with the neighborhood kids over). We now just buy a block of caramal from a candy store in town. I miss the fun of unwrapping all those candies, but with 20 kids plus parents, it gets messy and its too much of a pain for me and my wife to do ahead of time. Now we have the caramal melted in advance. But if kraft sold a larger size ...

1 box german chocolate cake mix (don't use Duncan Hines, the consistency is not right for this recipe) 1 14 oz package of Kraft caramels, unwrapped 2/3 cup evaporated milk, divided 1 cup chopped walnuts 1 stick margerine, melted 1 pakcage chocolate chips
Pre-heat oven to 350. Combine cake mix, margerine, walnuts and 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Press 1/2 the batter into a greased 13x9 pan, and bake for 6 minutes. Meanwhile, melt the caramels into the other 1/3 cup of evaporated milk. Remove pan from oven. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top, then spread caramel mixture on top of the chips. Sprinkle the remaining batter on top of the caramels, then bake for 20-25 more minutes.
Let cool, cut into squares and enjoy!
This recipe is very popular. My coworkers, and my fellow church volunteers go nuts when I bring these in for them.

There are many versions of this spectacular layered bar floating around. This one is the best.
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups flour 2 cups quick cooking rolled oats 1-1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar 1 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp. salt 1 cup butter, melted 14 oz. pkg. light caramels, unwrapped 1/3 cup light cream 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
PREPARATION:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 13x9-inch pan and set aside. In large bowl, combine flour, oats, sugar, soda and salt and blend. Add melted butter and mix until crumbly. Reserve half of crumb mixture (about 3 cups) for topping, and press remaining crumb mixture in bottom of greased pan.
In a small bowl, combine caramels and cream. Heat in microwave oven for 4-6 minutes on 50% power, stirring twice during cooking, until caramels are melted and mixture is smooth.
Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over reserved crust. Drizzle evenly with melted caramel mixture and sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool 1 hour or until completely cooled. Cut into bars.
