So...has anyone ever gotten a letter informing them that a
known kiddie-fiddler has just moved into their 'hood? :evilfrown:

Besides me just now, that is...

I know they gotta live *somewhere*, but...ewww. :scared:

Shit. I'm sorry.

Not that you asked for advice, but there is a really, really good book called, "Protecting the Gift" by Gavin DeBecker. Please get a copy and read it.

23. That is the BEST book. That and its companion
The Gift of Fear.

Mindblowing what your subconscious knows and your conscious doesn't clue into.

After reading those books, I always trust my gut. turns out I am usually right. Two summers ago a family moved in and their kids were bookends around my 7yo. They were here ALL the time and mom never came to see if I was an axe murderer or anything like that.

I would call my little one in to come eat at lunch and they would say, can we have some lunch, our mom isn't going to feed us. They would also ask if my little girl could go to their house and I always said No.

Turns out the 8yo girl was being sexually abused by her 13yo brother.

The gut doesn't lie.

for peeing in public or perhaps a statutory rapist who was 18 with a 16 year old girlfriend?

Per our State website we have one a couple of blocks from our house. He's also a Catholic priest who is living, wait for it...

a hundred feet from a parochial school and in the other direction a hundred feet from a public grammar school.

Sometimes real life is just insane.

25. Two of those guys got murdered in Bellingham last month
by a guy who posed as an FBI agent, and later turned himself in and has written a few letters to the local media about how he 'snapped' over the Groene thing (murder, kidnap by paroled pedophile) in Idaho

Bellingham Police changes sex offender Web site
http://www.king5.com/localnews/stories/NW_091205WABsexoffendersaddressKC.5039e997.html

"... After serving time in prison, convicted sex offenders Hank Eisses and Victor Vasquez settled into a little house on Bellingham's Northwest Avenue.

"They had no other obligation to the people of the state except for the sexual offender registration law," said Chief Randy Carroll, Bellingham Police Dept.

Michael Mullen claims he murdered Eisses and Vasquez last month because they were sex offenders. He said he found out where they lived with the help of a law enforcement Web site..."

28. Be careful
I'm sure you know all this already, but this hits home with me since we had a tragic episode in which a 9 year old was violently raped by a repeat offender who moved into his parent's home upon his release several years ago. It is very disturbing and you should be an active member of the community armed with the information you have received. I am not talking about vigilantism, but keep your eyes open and, if you have kids, it is probably a good time to talk with them about safety measures and what to do if someone approaches them. With any luck, this person falls into the small category of one time offenders. However, it is far better to be safe, talk to your kids and talk to your neighbors. Sorry to get all "preachy" with this.

29. interesting topic.....

You know, my step father is under that list. Unfortunately, it is not true. He cheated on his ex-wife, who's mother sister was a Judge, so in her pissed-offedness she got charged him with molesting her daughter ( from a previous marriage), nobody believed him and he got sent to prison for 3 years. The daughter whom he supposedly molested retracted her statement when she got older ( and could function without her mother) and wrote a long letter to his parole officer telling all. They were supposed to take him off the list but they are tough about these laws ( which i cannot argue with). So, for the past 5 years while living with my mother stepfather and my 4 step siblings, everyday we were reminded that " people knew". The neighbors would refuse to let their kids play with my siblings, letters were sent, threats were made, looks were given, petitions were sent out through the hood to get us kicked out. He was even arrested on Halloween in front of his kids because the police were rounding up all the felons. But in all of this, i can not be mad at how the people reacted. If I knew a child molester lived on my street, even if he did not do it, just the suspicion of it would make me act the same way. It is hard to tell him that, as he was the best father I ever had, but all I had to do is pretend I had kids.
That just makes me think of all the wrongly accused who are branded for life, though the caution of a mother or father will always override the pity I feel for those wrongly accused.

30. No, but I check the list once in a while for my neighborhood.
It's funny, I found someone I know on it (not a child molester), the brother of a college friend of mine that I met a couple of times. He was on it for CSC4, which in Michigan can mean anything from copping a feel to sex with a barely-underage girl.
