Holy Guacamole! 40-50 MPH Winds, Gusts to 60!!!!
And I'm NOT describing the Repug Senate Marathon.

Chicago is living up to its Windy City nickname tonight, with power lines and trees down, 46,000 homes and businesses without power, 25 foot waves on Lake Michigan (!) and this continues 'till 11:00 pm.

I saw a woman get knocked over (literally) Downtown tonight, and saw street lamps blown over.

Wow!

Expect the idiots who, over the summer, forgot how to drive in it make for a miserable morning. :scared:

8. I Was at the Airport Today...
...And watched a poor little Cessna take off and get tossed about like a kite. (In my opinion, that pilot made a questionable call operating his/her plane and taking off. I wouldn't have.)

The big jet folks are slowed down quite a bit, too. These high winds reduce the number of runways available.

I've only ever operated in winds like these, and that was in a Beechcraft Sundowner which is possibly the best four seater in high winds. (It's the least prone to flipping over on the ground. The Socata four seaters are also good.) It was very uncomfortable and a little scary. And the winds are going to get worse before they get better. Time to stay inside, on the ground, with the airplanes chained down tight.

10. You wuss. That's a CALM day here in Fargo...
Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 09:46 PM by northwest
And in case you've wondered, Fargo is the TRUE "windy city" of the US. Average consistent wind speed here is just over 12.5 mph.:P:P:P

And mix that in with temperatures already below zero in January...

21. Antennae OK?
All I have is a 20-m dipole cut for 14.28. It is hung high in the trees (I bought one of those E-Z Hang slingshot-Zebco reel contraptions). I'd hate to lose it to wind.

Usually my dog runs to the door ready to go run. I opened the door and she was like, WTF IS GOING ON OUT THERE? Ran back in the backroom and hid in the closet. lol.

22. Hang on!
Actually, 30 - 40 mph is common where I live. 50 - 60 a few times a year. A few times in the last decade we hit in the 80 - 100 mph range. In the last 2 years I've lost a greenhouse and part of my roof. Business as usual. Batten down, hang on, and ride it out. I hope it calms down soon.
