22. Mostly, I like cats with longer hair.
Whether or not they are a particular "breed." "Lookalikes" do show up in the general cat population. "Blue" cats (similar to Russian Blues) have been born to unspecified moms. One of my cats looks like a Turkish Van--white with colored "points." He's got longish, thick hair that sheds very little.

Purebred Persians often have sweet dispositions. A friend's Burmese is a lovely cat with tons of personality. The Siamese "personality" is notorious--but just right for some folks.

39. Sorry to hear about your puss... I would miss mine terribly...
His name is Dexter. Sometimes it's Prince Dexter...

Most of that stoutness is fur. Manx have twice the hair follicles of regular short hairs. That's why they're fur is so soft. The fur on his belly feels like mink! Some friends of mine who had a manx named it Charmin, because she was squeesibly soft!

They're bred for their dense fur, short ears and slight tail. (Don't tell Dexter he doesn't have a tail; you should see it "switch" when he's hunting.) They're the only cat breed bred for working. They were employed on fishing boats coming from the Isle of Man, which is where they get their name. The dense fur means it's pretty hard to get them very wet. The moisture stays on the tips of their coat while their skin is dry as a bone. They are feisty, brave hunters. He's attacked a black lab, a collie and a terrier over the years. He's not afraid of much.

41. Very interesting
I didn't know any of that about Manx. That fur mist really be something feel! After we ended up with our Ragdoll (Temujin or Muji for short), we discovered that Raggies don't have undercoats the way most cats do. He has very long fur but it doesn't behave like, say, a Persian coat. We rarely have to groom him at all, the lack of undercoat allows him to manage that by himself very easily.

Chandra was very brave also that way; I saw her attack at least three dogs over the years, usually in defense of her more staid brother Daimon. One of those dogs was at least five times her size! She got the nickname "Battlemistress" for that one.

33. Tonkinese, I think
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 11:53 AM by Terran
Our Tonk, Chandra, wasn't quite pure bred, but she was in most ways the best cat me and my partner have ever had. She passed away after 16 good years. Now we have a pure Ragdoll and two pure Siamese, one seal and one blue, and they're all great in their own peculiar ways, but I miss how extremely people-oriented Tonks are. Are newer family are all affectionate but they're not lap cats the way Channie was (sigh)(I miss her so much).

Edit: not Channie, but a very beautiful Tonkinese. They always look you in the eye like that.

Maybe that talkativeness is a seal point trait, because her litter mate has The Siamese Voice and loves to use it.

Very handsome cat there, btw. I think Siamese are particularly graceful with the way they place their forelegs.

40. Burmese
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 12:30 PM by wackadoo wabbit
My husband and I had only had mixed breeds (mutts) until we got a Burmese rescue - but now we're sold! We've never had such a sweet, loving, affectionate, and, yes, co-dependent cat. They say that Burmese are the most dog-like of all cats, and it certainly seems to be true in our cat's case. He's incredibly interactive, and he follows us everywhere! And neither of us has ever had such a talkative cat (and that includes the Siamese that my husband had as a child). In our minds, the Burmese is the perfect (or should that be purrfect?) cat.

She's so sweet and is a grey and cream tortoiseshell. She has five toes on each back paw, five toes on her right front paw, and five toes and a dewclaw on the left front. Twenty-one claws!

The people at the Humane Society said she was feral, so naturally no one would come near her, but my dad did and she's one of the most loving cats they've ever had. Their favorite moment when they were adopting her was when one of the volunteers said, "She has extra toes. That makes her a pterodactyl." :D

I've never had a purebred cat before, but Izzy the Siamese is just a real cut up. She doesn't get along with the other three cats, but she just loves the dog. She almost treats him as her "pet" and yes, the dog is chewing on her chest. They horse around all the time.
The other is Mr. Bubbles, who had 24 toes, but had to have one removed because he was stepping on it and it was making him bleed. I was told he tied the Guiness Book Record.
Both are strays, who arrived at our doorstep. We didn't get to choose them. They chose us.

64. I'm more of a dog person, but
there's something about a Himalayan that I find to be heartwarming. :)

72. Dog person here, too.
But if I did have a cat, it would probably be a Maine Coon or a Ragdoll.

77. MUTTS OF ALL STRIPES
I like mutts. All our kids are mutts. :hi: And unless it's being sold by someone who is clearly mistreating his animal, I'll never buy a purebred.

79. We are Siamese if you please. We are Siamese if you don't please.
I love the Siamese cats because they are so vocal. What can I say? I love an opinionated cat. My cats are part Siamese even though they don't have the markings. And yes, they are vocal. The Siamese is the coolest cat to me, but I have to say I also love alley cats as well. They are sometimes the best pets you can have.

81. This is the only truth I know: I love all cats in the world.
I can't say that about anything else.

Doesn't matter what breed. We take what comes our way and needs a home.
