Okay, I'm pissed, real pissed |
|
Our lawnmower has been busted for awhile. My other roomies never spoke to the landlord about it, so I went over there. One of my roomies signed a contract saying we would cut the lawn, there was nothing specific about with what. But when I spoke to the landlord she tried to play the "Oh, you have to have your own lawnmower, we were just lending you that one," card. So seeing as how in the contract there was nothing specific about that, and that she was being a stubborn cow, I agreed we'd pay half of the repair cost. So my roomie calls me today and totlaly fucking stonewalls me. She says, "Well, me and Gabe (My other roomie) decided she should pay the whole cost, and since you negotiated we pay half, you should pay our half. Because we're not paying, that's our stance." I was in the grocery store so I didn't let er fly. It is not my fault she showed no initiative and isn't happy with how this was settled. And for her to do this feels like such a betrayal to me, I really don't think I can be friends anymore. I'm looking at the rentals for a new place... but at the same time I'm trying to calm down and be rational. But from any way I look I feel I've been screwed. All I wanted to do was mow the fucking lawn. :-(

I wouldn't do it, but of course, as demonstrated, the thought crossed my mind

3. That's what I think, it's unbelievably cowardly |
|
If situations were reversed I'd just take the hit and say "thanks for the great negotiating skills dipshit."
the thing is, it's not even the money... this thing could only cost me $50 and I would still be pissed.

one of your other roomies signed the thing saying he or she would cut the lawn. i wouldn't do a thing re: the lawnmower repair. Let the lawn grow out. Eventually they will get the idea.

6. Well, they signed something saying "We" would cut the lawn |
|
All I'm going to do is tell them "There was a glitch in the contract, she could easily have taken her mower away and evicted us for not cutting the lawn, but we came to an agreement to pay half. So here's MY stance... I give MY notice. YOU pay your half of the mower anyway, and OUR four year friendship is toast. Well done"

i think you'll make your point by giving them the notice. They will have a well deserved "oh shit" moment.

How high is it allowed to grow?
Does it have to be a uniform cut?
I would be tempted to get a beer and a book and a pair of scissors and just cut a bit. Read a bit. Sip a bit. Then leave the rest for the next day. Repeat on the following weekend.

this "Well, fuck you" attitude my roomate hit me with as I spoke to her in the frozen food section. She acted as if I had somehow wronged her or something. And it's not cool, you don't do that to your friends. I'm still in a kind of shock over this shit, I would never ever have done something like that to a friend.

Maybe she was pissed off with something else or thought that you should have asked her about it first.
Who the heck knows. Just imagine thirty years from now and you meet over a drink. You wouldn't have very much to talk about if not for this incident.

This is the girl I took to my sister's wedding for christ's sake! So I don't want to get in her face and tell her to fuck off...but it's hard to resist that urge, I don't like the feeling of buckling when I know I'm right. especially when there's a moral issue attached to this.

Things with "neighbor-boy" are on hold for now, considering I haven't seen him for almost a week. And I totally wanted to invite him to a party a friend is having. Maybe I will see him over the weekend??? *fingers crossed*
As for not being around much, I have just been so damned busy trying to live life and figure out what I want to do next. If you know how it goes.
So if you decide to take me up on the offer of moving to Minnesota ;) Just let me know...

|
It's 30 minutes out of town and so it's handy. Plus I'm looking for a new job so I may be leaving anyway... the whole thing boils down to if I want to scrap this friendship. I honestly love this girl (in a friend way) she's a great person and I enjoy her company. But this shit about strongarming me, it's just unacceptanble

Having said that, everywhere that I've lived with a yard, I've been responsible for mowing. The one exception is my current pad, but it's an apartment WITH a small, private yard so a landscaping company mows. All rental houses I've lived in....I was responsible. Sorry.

the deal is off about paying half. Everything's back to Square One.
Oh, and that your roomie can go over and re-negotiate her own deal with the landlord.

30. I moved 13 times in two years. |
|
And I still haven't recovered. And that was twenty five years ago. Roomates and landlords can really suck.
I've got just the right punishment for them. Mow my lawn. I've got about ten acres of grass that takes several days to mow. It's a big pain in the ass. Almost as bad as a bad landlord.
I hope things work out for you. I know how frustrating and consuming it can be. Moving 13 times was much more painful, mentally, than physically. Plus, I got ripped off a few times. Good luck. I don't have much in the way of advice. I'd give you my mower if I lived nearby.
