for me, but I can't tell you how many times I have awoken at, say, 2:00am bright eyed and bushy tailed. Then I crash about the time the alarm goes off. Very bad!

My sleep doctor said I should have no problem using it whenever I need it and that it's not addictive.
I love the stuff and use it at least 1-2 times a week

14. That's what my doc said, too |
|
last week, in fact. I've been on it for four months, and I was thinking about going off of it (I also take a low dose of trazodone as a sleep aid, too). He said that, even though it is slightly addictive, it is pretty safe and not nearly as addictive as we've been led to believe.
Anyway, anything that keeps the wolves at bay for another night is fine with me.

Although it can be uncomfortable to subsequently wake up in a sitting position, nowhere near the bed, etc.

not from TRYING to stay up, but when the pain burns through the Ambien for a while, then the ambien sneaks up and whaps the pain upside the head with a sock full of sand, and hustles to work in about twelve seconds before the pain can gather its wits and jump back into the melee.
You should SEE the abstract literature I've create after falling asleep with my hands on the PowerBook's keyboard.

Yes! Ambien literature -- I know what you speak of.
I've actually woken up from pain after taking one ambien (along with painkiller), then thought it was a bright idea to take a second one (at like 4 AM mind you)...not the greatest thing for getting up on time....

after taking Ambien.
My funniest "ambien moment" was waking up with a half-melted container of hummus on my shirt, half a pita in my hand, and infomercials on late night TV. oops. :D

20. Sleep well--insomnia is a stone bitch. Ambien, however, was worse. |
|
I'm glad it is good for you. I tried it and slept GREAT for the first couple of nights.
Day three I started hallucinating--seeing visions of horrible things--not the fun kind of things you see when you are tripping--but the kind of shit that makes your soul curdle.
Then the panic attacks started. Wave after WAVE of them. I was sitting here in my chair, in my family room, and I was gasping for air and sweating like a pig. It was like no speed I have ever done.
Then the crying jags started. For no reason. Our of the blue I'm sitting there in total meltdown. I told my husband that if I flipped out any further that he was to call the Docs--not to wait. That feeling of loss of control was one of the most terrifying things I have ever experienced.
I did my share of chemicals in the late 70's and the 80's. I will admit freely to having subscribed to the "Better Living thru Chemistry" club a long time ago. If I hadn't done so many drugs, i doubt I'd have made it thru that experience because I was able to realize it was the chemicals doing it TO me, rather than me losing my mind.
I will NEVER take Ambien again.
Sleep well, but DO be careful with that stuff--ok?

back in the days prior to back surgery.
Two Darvocet, a Flexeril, and two shots of tequila.
14-16 hours of pain-free coma.
But please, kids, don't try this at home.

26. I lost 36 hours due to ambien--- |
|
Apparently, after a few weeks of usage, I took one and instead of waking up normally that next day, I "woke up" in a sleep-walking state unable to recall my identity.
My husband took me to the emergency room, where, the doc revealed that he had seen this before with Ambien. They sent me home, with a prescription. Because I had been yelling and screaming for "chocolate cookies with milk" like a toddler, by husband took me into a local food store on the way home.
Bad idea.
I shoplifted hemp-flavored lip gloss and pork chops. I ate half the lip gloss on the way home.
I shook it off, eventually.

28. It's prescription only. And, really, only for occasional use. I've never |
|
used it for more than two days in a row, because long-term use does seem to be inviting trouble. See some of the posts here.
But for chronic-pain people, it's a great "backstop" to have available...because you know, no matter how bad the pain is, you can use it to shut everything off for a while.

of those drugs. I abhor any type of drug, and I only take aspirin/ibuprofen if I absolutely have to. As far as sleeping. Try to stay up as late as possible. When I wake up in the middle of the night, well, my book(s) is right there, handy, just waiting for me!

I wasn't judging . . . just stating my beliefs. I know there are cases when drugs are a godsend, when they are truly a necessity. I'm coping in the way that suits me, and pray I never had to use drugs.

32. Lunesta is my new sleeping pill of choice |
|
It works much better for me than ambien. Ambien helped me conk out but if I woke up during the night, it did nothing to help me get back to sleep. Then, after about 5 nights on it, it just stopped working.
Lunesta works and I don't feel drowsy in the morning. (commercial over)
