Honda Develops World’s First Production Motorcycle Airbag System
TOKYO, Japan, September 8, 2005 - Honda Motor Co., Ltd. today announced it has succeeded in developing the world’s first production motorcycle airbag system. The new system, which can help lessen the severity of injuries caused by frontal collisions, is to be made available on the new Gold Wing motorcycle scheduled for release in late spring of 2006 in the US.

Interesting, but it would only protect in a head-on collision, which is probably the least-likely type of crash.

1. Just an offhand opinion,
the only thing that would protect a rider is an airbag that totally wraps around the aforementioned rider.

I guess with the one in the picture, you get to miss the gas tank and windshield on your way up and out.

2. Don't they teach riders to "lay it down" anymore?
Popular set-up around these parts is a Gold Wing with Training Wheels.
