2. it's chilly already at night out here

but it is fall weather after all, just a bit cooler than I've been used to.

19. I was in Baltimore during the 1980 blizzard...

It was amazing...I went to bed with three inches of a previous snowfall on the ground. When I woke up, it measured around 20"!

The entire city just shut down.

PLUS, my building had no heat since the fuel truck couldn't get in.
I baked cookies and slept in my little kitchen that night.

15. Wow. The DC area actually sees sub-zero?

I have cousins in Falls Church and all I can think of is stiffling heat. (I don't remember ever visiting in the winter though)

In Maine, we usually see below zero for about 3 to 4 weeks in Jan\Feb. -20 something is not unusual. Brrr. I'm not looking forward to it.

16. Normal January temps are in the 25-35 range, but

it's not unusual for us to have a brief cold snap that sends temps down into the 0s and a little below.

In past summers, we've seen temps of 100+ as well.

It seems like the longer we go without these extremes, the more we're asking for it!

12. I was always taught that solid black meant a hard winter,

solid red meant a mild winter, and equal amounts of red and black indicated standard fare.

Having said that, we'll probably now have unusually warm weather... :D

14. I read that if it has...

...a THICK brown band there will be a mild winter but if it has a THIN brown band the winter will be more severe. So, if it is SOLID black with no band that could be seen as an indication that this winter will be off the charts.
