I've worked out what I'm going to tell my roomies tomorrow |
|
With help from an old friend of mine, who said the whole situation is "completely irrational."
I'm going to say, "In your absence, I negotiated a settlement, you never gave me any input into what you thought was a good soloution. So the decision between us and our landlord affects all of us. And for you to come out of nowhere with no kind of pre-discussion about it and tell me it's my fault and I have to pay every cent is a shitty thing to do. As well, the fact you and your boyfriend (my other roomate) have been schemeing in regards to this makes me feel even more betrayed. So, I don't know if I can even be friends with you, let alone roommates. (next sentence optional) eat a dick and choke on it fuckers.. I would have died or killed for you, but you chose to fuck me. Get bent. that's not how we do things where I was raised."

the lawnmower broek. My roomies were on vacation, I went to speak to the landlord and she pointed out, in the contract, we had to mow the lawn, there was no mention of how, and that the mower we were using was on loan. And though I hate her for it, legally, she's correct. so I struck a deal that "we" would pay for half the repair cost. My roomies are now saying that she should have paid for all of it, and it's my fault I struck that agreement, and I should pay for all of it.
Honestly, it kills me, but I'm a Nuttall and can't be kicked around.

5. well no.. the landlord is NOT obligated to pay to repair the lawnmower. |
|
You and your collective roommates are. I am awestruck that she even agreed to pay half. Since a lawnmower can cost about $100 new, and it's off season, I certainly hope the bill is cheap. You are all incredibly lucky she agreed to pay half the repair; she certainly is under no obligation legally to do so.
The landlord has no obligation to provide you with a lawnmower, in any condition, whatsoever; you are, however obligated to mow the lawn, per your contract, and that remains a complete and seperate issue, regardless of your roommate's terribly flawed opinion. Your roommates are completely wrong about the landlord and your discussion; Their own discussion would have had the same outcome; your landlord is NOT responsible for your lawnmower, and given the terms of your contract, never would be, no matter if your roommates were in town or not.
That said, you, collectively with the roommates, being in possession of a borrowed lawnmower, are obligated to repair the lawnmower either for your own use, but prior to returning to whomever owns it. Consider yourselves fortunate she's paying for part of the repair.
There is no room for discussion and negotiation here. You and your roommates are all equally liable for the condition of the lawnmower, unless somehow, your specific negligent actions caused its disrepair. If it's worn from use, you're all liable.
Your roommates need to grow up and take some responsibility.
