BTBM's Official "Led Zeppelin Blows" thread.
At least other Brit blues rock bands credited and acknowledged the bluesmen they ripped off.
 Discuss amongst yourselves.

32. I OD'ed on Zep between the ages of 13-15
I could play every single Jimmy Page solo in existence. Which came in handy for my Dad-rock cover band. :puke:

4. They gave "wank rock" a bad name
although I actually like Robert Plant's solo stuff. Jimmy Page is one of the most overrated guitar players in rock, IMHO.

10. Not true.
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 02:00 PM by XNASA
Willie Dixon is given songwriting credits for 'You Shook Me' and 'I Can't Quit You Babe'...and that's just the first album.

Even then, LZ morphed those songs so much that I wouldn't consider them direct rip-offs. LZ had a lot of different influences from Folk to Arabic to Funk.

Gee, if you think that LZ are rip-offs, I can't imagine where you'd stand on somebody like Clapton...a guy who never had an original idea in his life.

16. You Beat Me To It!
Darn you! Except for the Clapton part. I'm not an Eric-hater.

But, i think it interesting when someone ignores things like The Rover, or The Ocean, or Kashmir. Just what bluesman got ripped off on those? Answer: None. That wasn't blues!

Stairway to Heaven wasn't nearly as good as people claim, but they've got a lot of other excellent songs.

33. No one who has heard Robert Plant inf full flow could say that
:scared:

How many ear-splitting, tone-deaf "baby baby"s and "oh-ooh-wo-oh"s can one man put into one song? And as for their pretentious mysticisms:

Three very talented musicians and a singer with an impressive range, but when it comes to songwriting talent and resonance they did indeed blow. That's not "cool" or unique to say, it's just an opinion.

26. I tried to like them
I honestly tried to listen to them a few times. I can get past some of the music, but once that singing starts it ruins it all for me. Some of that shit sounds like Plant was screwing Yoko in the vocal booth.

As for the blues thing, I think they overdid it on the "borrowing" of licks, lyrics and complete songs but that is old news. I don't dislike them because of that, I dislike them because I think Plants voice gets on my nerves and Page was one of the sloppiest guitarists to be put on record. They had a few good tunes and Jones and Bonham is their saving grace in my opinion.
