Omg. shortbus just totaled his car.
Apparently it was ugly. Like *shouldn't have walked away alive* ugly. He's fine, some cuts and scrapes, some glass...I'm a tad freaked at the mo'. A roll of carpet was in the middle of the freeway, he swerved to avoid it and took out like 50 ft. of guardrail... I'm sure he'd appreciate some good vibes or whatever. :)

23. good question
if you live in NC, YOU ARE!

Although if I knew who left that roll of carpet in the road, I'd pay it personally in shattered kneecaps and severed fingers.

This was outside Durham, NC. I think. (I'm new to the area.) Somewhere in NC, let's just say. :D

I'm glad he's ok - give him a handful of Ibuprofen when he walks through the door (ok, maybe not a WHOLE handful) I'm not a doctor, I just play the game.

9. The important this is that he's OK
Where's he at now? How's he getting home? He'll probably be really sore tomorrow once the adrenaline wears off and soft tissue stresses set in.

11. Yeah
He's showering right now, trying to get rid of glass dust. He had someone come pick him up. His hand is gonna be swollen tomorrow for sure, we'll just have to wait and see what else is damaged. :(

12. Make sure he gets to a doctor tomorrow!
Proles mentioned that once the adrenalin wears off, he'll be achey. I was in an accident and it took 24 hours for my whole body to ache and realize I had whiplash.

Sending good vibes his way, and hopefully he'll be up to his usual mischief in the lounge soon!

18. I got broadsided
by a Chevette, no less (!)...I had a HUGE black/purple bruise on my side. It hurt like hell, but I just thought it was bruised, until I woke up in the middle of the night like 3 days later and could hardly breathe...oh yeah, I had 2 cracked ribs...:eyes:

He's going to see the Dr. tomorrow whether he likes it or not. ;)

Thanks again, everyone.

16. Please take him to the hospital.... head injuries can be insidious and
hard to see. Better to pay the bill very slowly and have his head all okay than to have a closed head injury. The brain is pretty delicate.

Politicat (who "lost" a cousin to a closed head injury..... she's alive, but she's not the person I grew up with.)

22. Sudden trauma can have unexpected results and not just on the brain
Internal organs can have taken a hit as well and the effects may not be evident until much later. He should get checked up.

27. Gee, thanks dolo...
I'll try to get some good pics for the Lounge tomorrow AM when I find out where they towed the remains. I'm a little shocked not to be deceased at the moment, but got the glass washed off, and downed a couple of beers, and now feeling much better. Left hand is a bit banged up, and I have a few new cuts and scrapes, but no embedded glass fragments, and no protruding bones, so seeing a doctor is not high on my priority list. Oh, have I mentioned that while my car was insured to the hilt, my body is not? No doctor. I'll be a bit bruised, I'm sure. But not vomiting organs or anything. Besides - there's nobody to sue. What's the point of being injured?

Edited on Thu Nov-13-03 01:02 AM by dolo amber
at the moment...and he's a piss-poor one handed typist. :P

He's asked me to convey the following:

"Thank you. Sure to be sore tomorrow, no doctor (unless, as previously stated, vomiting organs. ;)). Thanks for the kind offer of assistance, oh, and by the way, you didn't happen to lose any carpet on I-40 today, did you? :P"

</FIN>

Thanks from me as well, say hi to Mr. and wee mr. nclib for us! :hi:

edit: I'm leaving in the "wee mr. nclib" because you know who I mean, even though shortbus is now laughing hysterically ...:eyes:

If it was new carpet, I hope SB snatched it up at least. :)

Seriously though, that's such a dangerous situation. It's a shame it can't be traced back to the owner.

You know wee mr. nclib would like to get together with wee dolo amber to play sometime. :D Maybe after things settle down some.

40. Glad you're okay
Take care of yourself though and get checked out medically. Sometimes there can be injuries that seem okay at the time, then catch up to you as you get older.
And good luck with all the beurocratic insurance stuff too. (Frequently that's the worst part).
