10. The steak is seared quickly on a very hot grill !
The center of a thick cut of beef will still be cool after it has been cooked.

The texture of the meat changes as it cooks ...

extremely rare is the most tender way to eat beef.

I ate at John Elway's steak house in Denver last weekend. Very tasty, but not Delmonico's.

I want their (Delmonico's) steak au poivre. :9

She's been on me to come to see NYC. I don't wanna go in winter. I'll stay here where it's relatively warm. :)

But I hear springtime in New York is lovely! (I can save some pennies, too.)

12. I'll stick with Peter Luger's
generally considered the best steak house in the world, and I can't really disagree. And I don't even think it's as good as it used to be.

17. Old Homestead and Del Friscos for me!
Mmmmm..........

But I've never had Delmonicos, so I can't compare. I trust your judgment, though!

Smith and Wollensky - crap
Gallaghers - crap

I haven't done Peter Lugers, either. I really wish I had.

20. Old Homestead is down in the old meat district -
14th and 9th.

http://theoldhomesteadsteakhouse.com/index2.htm

Del Friscos is a chain, but even so, it's FUCKING good steak. After I discovered Del Friscos - which also had a cigar bar, before NYC's law changed - that was it for me. That was our usual haunt once every week or two for dinner, cigars, lots of drinks, and massive ranting.

Del Friscos is at 6th Avenue and 49th.

Humorous aside, after 9-11, my company bought a new building, and after we moved in I could look down on del Friscos from my first office there. :-) Of course, my friends and I started hanging out there more after that.

http://www.delfriscos.com/locations.asp

Oh, and another humorous aside - as you can see in the image on that webpage, since that's the NYC Del Friscos, the cigar bar, where we ranted, also looked out on the FOX News Ticker which we could se perfectly, so there was lots of ranting from that. As well as the TV in the cigar room set to FOX News (no audio, though).

I really miss it - their steak is the best I've ever had, and consistently excellent, too - the staff are fucking incredible, the mashed potatoes are glorious, the onion rings are to die for...it's just damned good eating.

22. rich and inviting
The area where the Old Homestead is located wasn't a place for a single woman to go for supper back when I lived in the NYC area. Which explains why I missed it.

Del Friscos opened after I left the big city. Pity.

BTW ... the links are awesome, thanks Rabrrrrrr.
