Graphics help needed!!
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 09:16 PM by silverweb
My daughter is president of a new California Young Democrats club at her community college and has created a logo to put on flyers, a banner, etc. However, when she enlarges the image, it becomes pixelated, so it needs to have all the little squares filled in solid by someone with a decent photoshop program. That way, she'll be able to enlarge it without trouble.

Will a volunteer who knows what to do please fix this image? She needs it ASAP because there's a meeting on Friday. I told her that DU would surely come through for her. :)

Here it is:

3. When you enlarge an image it ALWAYS becomes pixelated.
What needs to happen here? Does what you posted need to be enlarged? Because that's a tall order. If it's just that the word "Mesa" needs filling in and the donkey graphic needs smoothing out, no sweat.

4. Well...
I think it's just the wording and the donkey....

She's at class and won't be home until about 9:30, but I'll ask her when she comes in.

7. We're obviously in different time zones!
It's already almost 11 here, but I have a slow day at work tomorrow, if you could let me know what needs to be done, I could certainly take a crack at it. Nobody at work will question me pfutzing around with Photoshop since that's my job anyway. So just let me know. :hi:

5. Would you (she) mind if someone...
tried to reproduce the image from scratch? I could try to work up something that could come close.

6. I'm positive she wouldn't mind...
She wants the best possible image for her new Young Dems organization.

But do you really want to go through all that?

9. I will give it a shot.. I'm kinda bored..
But, any idea on the biggest size she would need? Be aware that this might take a little while.

13. Okay.
A project is always good for boredom. :D

I know she wants to make a banner, but I don't know how big. I do know she needs something she can put on letter-sized flyers Friday.

Once again, I'll have to check with her when she gets home in about two hours.

16. I have been trying for the last hour and...
have not had any luck getting the donkey to look good at a larger size. Is the donkey already used as a logo by the group? Would starting from scratch be an option?

17. The group has no logo as yet.
If you can come up with something that would communicate the concept in better style, have at it!

20. I really suck at this..
Here is a quick and dirty attempt.. (like 5 minutes)

It can scale to any size without a loss of quality. I can post the photoshop file if you really need to use. And the star should be changed to one like on a flag. I can do that.. That was just the only one in the custom shapes tool.

21. I like it.
:)

The question is whether or not my daughter is willing to stray much from the design she envisioned.

She's late getting home, so I called her and she's at her boyfriend's house watching their TV show. Silly me for wrongly assuming she was coming right home after class. :P

12. It doesn't need to have"the squares filled in..."
it needs to have the donkey and the text dones as vector (PostScript) shapes.

These are resolution-independent, and can be scaled up with no loss of resolution, than placed into a larger flag photograph.

I could do it for you, but not by tomorrow. Next time you have something like this, and can allow a week or so for the work, give me a yell.

18. Redstone means using a program like Illustrator instead of Photoshop.
And I'm out of work right now, so I have little to contribute.
Anybody need a good graphic artis?

15. GMTA, Redstone.
And I'll bet the farm that those exist *somewhere* as vector files already, too. Just nowhere that the people who need them can get them.

23. See if this works:
it looks like its just the black lettering in the word 'Mesa' that got pixelated? If so, and if this is the size you want it, see if this works:

Hey, Mesa CC in San Diego? I grew up right around there. neat.

and BTW - something as simple as that doesn't require photoshop. You can fill in those squares with Micrsoft Paint, which comes as a standard accessory on any PC

26. Yes, Mesa CC in San Diego.
We live about three miles from the campus and she's just starting her second year. :)

Thanks for the heads up about Paint, too. I haven't fooled around with graphics for a very long time and forgot all about that program.

We used to live in El Cajon.. Just thinking about it is making my shoes melt. La Jolla was a nice place to live when I had money.

:D

It still takes LOTS of money to live in La Jolla -- certainly more than I've ever had.

Do you like Oregon tons better than SoCal?
