Has anyone else had an MRI? |
|
I just had one today. I must say, it was a "different" experience. I had to remain still for about 30 minutes. That is - COMPLETELY still. I couldn't even lift a finger. It quickly became a game of mind over matter.
And it's a noisy machine - it makes a variety of loud knocking noises. The ear covers muffled it a little, but one of these noises sounded like a fire alarm. Had I been in any other state of mind, I would have bolted right out the door!
In the end - it all went well. I survived. Does anyone else have an MRI story to share?

I just dislocated my knee cap a couple of weeks ago and the ortho wanted to get a better look. I am still suffering from swelling and soreness.
I'll know the complete results in a day or two.
Thanks for asking :)

4. Luckily I was in the machine feet first only. |
|
But there was no way I could open my eyes! I knew that if I had done that I would immediately have become fidgety. I worked overtime to find my state of Zen.

9. I have to have an MRI once a year, and the absolute worst part is |
|
when they inject the gadalinium dye, not only is it radioactive, it makes me feel like I am in the process of peeing. Then you have to lay still, so you can't actually check for puddles! I now know that it is only a phantom feeling of pee, but holy shit it's weird!!! Still, I'll take 10 MRI's over 1 friggin spinal tap (I found an effective way to deal with the spinals though, I simply pass out, great fun).

12. I had an MRI on my back when I was 10. I would NOT recommend it! |
|
Really, I never get claustrophobia. But lock me in one of those things for four hours... :puke:

13. Have had two, one on each knee. |
|
And probably will have to have one on my left arm here soon.
Open MRIs are far better than closed.
I used the time to think about the plot of the book I'm working on, but found that concentrating was difficult, even though I can normally concentrate around loud noises. Very weird.

They suck. I was in it for 30 minutes, and since I'm claustrophobic, it seemed like 300 minutes. I hope I never have to have another one ever again.

15. Had one on my shoulder |
|
so my neck had to be in a funny position for 30 minutes. It ached like you wouldn't believe afterwards.
Funny thing is I actually found it easier to meditate while that magnet was blasting away than in a quiet room. That's what got me through it.
