Why I hate Creed so much
Some people come to me and as "why all the hate bro? Why do you hate Creed so much?"

To hate Creed is to know the type of people they are - I went to college with their type, and can tell you they are the most narcissistic group of fuckwads in the scene...

1 - They use the same song over and over, with different lyrics. Oh I can't identify the tune, I never made a point to get to know their music that well - I'll save myself the pain and suffering, but there was a website a while back that played the two songs simultaneously, proving they took the same exact song, with different lyrics.

2 - Christian Rock SUCKS! Now this is not to say Rockers who are Christian suck. U2 is a fine band. Bob Dylan's "Slow Train Coming" is an excellent album, and I love the entire Bob Marley catalogue. But the genre titled "Christian Rock" just sucks, because they are proselytizers first, musicians second.

3 - Hidden Christian Rock sucks WORSE! Then you have Creed, a band that masks its fundy message to sell more records, much like the Heavy Metal acts did in the 80's with their Faux Satanism. I wouldn't be surprised if Creed had backmasking on their albums.

4 - Stapp is a Loser. Now I know why they are Evangelical Christians, Scott Stapp thinks HE is Jesus!

5 - They are a complete rip off of Pearl Jam.

2. About number 1...
Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 12:03 PM by primate1
That site was for Nickelback, not Creed.

And number 5: Brian Marshall actually said, "Well, Eddie Vedder wishes he could write songs like Scott Stapp."

http://www.sonymusic.com/artists/PearlJam/echoes/evkndd1.html

Eddie's comment on that? " I would like ... in order to wish that I could write a song like somebody, first of all I'd have to know who they are."

5. It saddens me that The Tea Party helped Alter Bridge with their album...
The Tea Party deserve so much more success in the US, yet it will only be their help with Creed Mark II that will be known.

12. No way...
I love The Tea Party. Incredible live show. Why would they help such a horribly lame band like that?

13. I wish I knew, but I read it somewhere...
I've never seen them, but I've got a ton of live shows. I was so thrilled when my wife and I took an overnight trip to Quebec City as part of our Maine trip this summer, as I was able to complete my Tea Party collection for around $10/disc instead of $30.

I wasn't even a very big fan at the time, but they blew my balls clean off.

6. Scott Stapp picks fights with people and sics his bodyguards on him.
No-talent ass-clown, and a pussy to boot.

7. I dunno much about Creed, but I do know this...
that "With Arms Wide Open" song is one of those that makes me reach for the 'scan' button INSTANTLY whenever it appears.

Seriously. You're driving along, and the announcer says, "Up next, some Creed," and before he can get to Avril Levigne or Hoobastank or whoever the hell is on after that, you're already scrambling for the button, because you know if you have to get past, "Well, I just heeeeeard...the news todayyyyy..." your HEAD WILL START BLEEDING.

As for their being a ripoff of Pearl Jam, well, I have the same nearly-emetic reaction to Pearl Jam, so I'm sure you're right about that.

Oy,

The Plaid Adder

8. I guess that makes me the black sheep of DU, then.
I've always liked Creed. I have no problem with their music, or the messages in their lyrics. I'm not particularly Christian in my beliefs, although I would consider myself a spiritual person. Sure, their music may be derivative of other bands, but the same can be said of 99% of the artists out there.

I wonder if Creed would be so reviled around here if they hadn't been at some point given the label "Christian Rock" (they're not, really, and I know several self-proclaimed "Christians" who will tell you so vehemently). It just seems at DU that many people are very prickly about the word "Christian"--almost a knee-jerk reaction.

9. Reason #6 to hate Creed
Wind-Up Records dropped my brother's band (Baboon) from the label to make room for Creed. The owner of Wind-Up is a first-rate dickweed.

10. All Christian Rock sounds like it was written by 12 year olds
Totally juvenile bland basic crap. They're so afraid to offend anyone they water everything down to the point where they make Barney & Friends sound edgy.

15. Not Stryper!
Yeah, they're a bit cheesy, but they're still miles better than most Christian bands past or present. "To Hell With The Devil" is the only Christian album I own.

22. alright! You're forcing a confession out of me!
I saw them live

It was around '89 I remember it was super loud and more than half the audience were secular metal heads.

16. I liked Creed when they first hit it big
And I still like a few of their songs. I understand why some people hate them. But, hey, Creed broke up a couple of years ago. Getting pissed at them now is like beating a dead horse.

I say we save or hatred for Nickleback. They are still out there pumping out bullshit and calling it music.

18. You don't need a reason to hate CREED
They're like George Dubya-- it's their very nature to suck, no explanation needed.

And most Christian "Rock" is just warmed-over AOR pap with rah-rah Jeebus lyrics on it. Unimaginative, uncreative, predictable, safe-- the complete antithesis of what "rock" music is supposed to be.

Except for Jars of Clay. They're kinda cool.

the sound of some of the fundy ones, like Pillar, though I can't go for the message.

All your reasons are valid but at the end of the day it's the garbage music and terrible vocals that get me. Creed Sucks!
