My mom goes in for surgery tomorrow...
She, my father, my sister and I are all scared to death, and it's only minor surgery too...but she just hates the thought of going under the knife at all. I wish I was home to be there for her.

1. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers, darling.
 I'm sure your mom will be fine, but I know how it feels to be far away from loved ones.

2. Thanks, JJ.
I just talked to her on the phone, and she's been crying all day. It's absolute torture.

5. I'll keep you all in my thoughts ...
I hope everything goes smoothly. There's no such thing as "minor" surgery when someone you love is involved.

6. I'll keep you in prayer, as well as your family.
My mom's been through a lot, too, and I know the horrible feeling of helplessness at not being able to be there when you desperately want to be there.

Most hospitals have a chaplain on call, who can come and pray with your mom before she goes in, and can offer support to your family. Just tell them to ask if the chaplain is available. (and most chaplains are well trained in dealing with all people, all religions, and even with those who do not consider themselves religious.) They can be a good support, or a listening ear, for just these times.

Peace to you, and to your family.
