Here at Casa Redstone, if it's Friday, you know that it must be...

1. Hi there, my dear Redstone....*um*.........
Chicken Washing Day?

First off, I didn't know (but am not surprised) that you have chickens...

But as for washing them...now THAT comes as a surprise!

8. I thank you my dear evlbstrd.......
Maybe I'm just numb today...but there is less pain...

Or maybe its the new pair of shoes I just bought for a wedding I'm going to Sunday?

Probably both ......

Your support means a hell of a lot, you know..... :loveya:

10. Hopefully, the wedding will help ease some of the pain.
At least for a little while. Go celebrate something positive in life.
Me, while I mail resumes and wait by the phone, I'm going to the DC rally. Unleash a little anger. Cathartic.

12. Oh how lucky you are, getting to go to the DC rally..
I wish like anything I could be there...no dice, though...

The wedding should be good for me...absolutely, celebrate something positive indeed...

Maybe I can get someone to dance with me...dinner and dancing after the wedding...all in the same hotel...Nice!

Good luck, BTW, with the resume mailings...hope something big and lovely turns up your way very soon...

25. I'm going to have lots of pictures when I get back.
I'll only be attending the Saturday rally. My daughter was afraid that, if I participated in the civil disobedience on Monday, I'd be tasered and have a heart attack, or be arrested and not be able to make bail (or job interviews!).
Actually, I was really worried about tasers, too.

PM a copy to me and I'll tell you if I know anyone who's looking for someone with your background. I have some contacts in the electronics, biotech, and IT fields.

27. I own a reasonably successful advertising agency
(B2B only, no commercial or consumer work), and we're a bit overwhelmed right now.

I'll look forward to seeing your particulars; it's getting to the point where we're going to have to outsource some work.

No promises, but you never know...

It sure as heck did cheer me up.....

And as I said to evlbstrd...I'm a bit numb today....

But I'd rather be numb than sad....so I guess I'm progressing...

Those new shoes did NOT hurt at all, either...they made me very happy...I've been looking for a long time for some that looked dressy enough, and were comfortable as well....

And these made the cut!

Thank you for all you do, for me, and for the whole Lounge...

We are damn lucky to have you.... :loveya:

13. New shoes? I'm sorry, you're losing me here. Not that it
takes much to get me confused...I'm not paying attention, as usual, I guess.

But whatever if afflicting you, yes, numb beats sad any day.

No thanks needed. You deserve whatever anyone does for you, because you are pure at heart. And no false modesty from you regarding that comment, young lady; you know it's true.

But I bought a nice new pair today to wear to a wedding on Sunday....

I'm not so sure about the pure at heart...I'm more complex than I might appear to be from my posts here...

I just might give you a call one of these days....

21. I did finally read your post upthread, so I'm not confused anymore
(well, not any more than usual).

Hey, I'd not have given you the phone number if I didn't expect you to use it as needed. Business hours (east coast) would be the best time, because I frequently shut off the phones at night to cut off the shitkickers (those bozos who try to get around the "do not call" rules by posing as people taking a poll, for example)...if I'm not here, the machine picks up with the business name, but don't let that throw you off. Leave a message.

You need to talk, we'll talk.

11. Deleted messages? I'm astonished.
But at least I have the comfort of knowing that no real DUer would post a deleteable reply to a message that was only posted to try to give people a bit of a chuckle in these parlous times...those messages had to have been posted by a troll, and I'm glad the mods caught them.

32. But PETA wouldn't let you wash a cat or a chicken with any
kind of soap, organic or not...you'd be disturbing the natural balance of dirt and oils in their feathers or fur, and that would be cruelty, wouldn't it?

Because, if my incubator in the guest room does its thing, I may have poultry of my own to wash, fairly soon.

35. What kind of chicks are you hatching? Ours is a Rhode Island Red,
and a terrific layer, even though she's no spring chicken (ouch), being four years old.

Mrs R. and the Little Guy actually washed her with Ivory soap. If it was cold outside, I'd have been worried that they would strip the oil from her feathers, but it's still quite warm here.

I'm getting the eggs from this guy in Quebec.
http://www.geocities.com/erisso01/poussins-milton-chicks_a.html

Your RIR looks pretty well-behaved! I used to farm-sit for a friend who had a flock of them ... some of them would perch on the sill of her living-room window and watch TV over her shoulder. One of the hens would come up and lay an egg on her doormat, almost every morning.

I tried Royal Palm turkeys earlier this summer, but unfortunately almost all the dozen eggs were "clears" (never formed embryos) and the 2 that made it to Week 4 didn't hatch. I'm hoping it's not due to a malfunction in the incubator -- which actually turned out a nice % of Danish Brown Leghorns, Barred Rocks, Speckled Sussex, and Polish chicks last year.

I'm wondering if I can wash ducklings as well! (Keeping the oils thing in mind ... though mine wouldn't have access to swimming water for several months, anyway.) I bought a few ducklings by mail last year, for a friend -- and for the few days I had them, they were total slobs, getting food all over themselves. I'm thinking of hatching some Indian Runners sometime -- would be less trouble to import the eggs into Canada (Metzer's in California says they have the necessary permits) than the live babies themselves.

p.s. I'm going to send your pic to my mom, with the caption "remember how you told me to wash my hens before dinner?"

with household chores is that you don't get to see the fruits of your labor for very long. You clean it--it gets dirty again. You straighten it up--it gets messed up again. It's never ending.x(

41. when I was about 6 years old, I asked my parents,
"Why can't we wash dishes a couple of days in advance?" (This was my first chore around the house, and since I'm an only child, I was the designated dishwasher until I moved out and went to college.)

They are still telling this story, much to my chagrin.
