any recommendations for free screen capture program?

I need recommendations... I have a Sony Vaio w/ Windows XP, also have Screen Capture program that WON'T work. I just want a screen capture program that is easy to use, and works... Help. Please.

1. for free - hit the Print Screen button on your keyboard, then Paste

it into a photo editing program.

4. It varies - on my laptop it is the function on the 'insert' key

Another tip is that if you press the 'Prnt Scrn' button it will capture the whole screen, but if you press 'Alt' at the same time then only the active window will be copied.

5. on my keys, it is above the Insert button

but it doesnt give you any confirmation after you hit it. The only way you know it worked is if you select Edit -> Paste inside Paint or another photo editing program.

6. Another good one

IrfanView It also does a lot of other things besides screen caps. It's my favorite basic image viewing/editing program. Sometimes I just don't need to fire up Photoshop and Irfanview comes in handy for those times.

It's a trial program, though. It expires after a couple months.
