I could probably spend days on end just watching my windows media player screen and listening to bad ass music.

That would be sweet.

16. You know what I meant
I'd rather be poor and have a properly functioning brain than be rich and not be able to talk. The guy is retarded now. You want to be like that then go ahead.

I used to do acid. I now have to take psychiatric meds to make my brain function properly. So I've got the worst of both worlds. I'm poor and I've got a busted brain.

I've heard of people who have permanently fucked themselves up just with one trip. But you probably know better.

...couple-of-fifths a day, probably did more damage to his brain than anything. Just a hunch....

22. I've never met any of them, and I used to trip a lot back in the day....
...because it was a drug of choice, among many. However, I know a lot of people walking the streets today, because they climbed into a bottle.

You have to realize, I was back there at the time of "Oz", and acid was probably one of the more benign drugs that were around. People were shooting up, taking horse tranquilizers, shoving coke by the shovel fulls, etc. I'm not condoning anything, but everything has a scale. And as for Oz's brain being fried, it is probably because he did all of the aforementioned to an extreme, including the 2 fifths a day. Sorry, but it ain't all attributed to acid.

25. Maybe not. But it sure didn't help
Man I know what I'm talking about. When people become psychotic they don't walk up to you and say, "I'm a fucking lunatic." In my case I drank as much as I could because that was the only way to ease my pain.

I became ill when I was twenty and it was after an acid trip. I know I'm not a fluke, either. I've personally met people with LSD psychosis. I also know of people who have tripped a hundred times and are fine. But why would anyone want to take that chance?

26. But what does that have to do with Oz?.....
...His brain is fried due to a multitude of reasons. As far as we know, he was snorting Pam Spray through a toilet paper holder - which some fry brains back then did - so everything else, whether you or me, is anecdotal...

31. I was just using him as an example
That motherfucker did LSD every day for 5 years according to rock-n-roll god legend. Do you think that was good for him? It could be that the reason that he drank and did cocaine was that he was having mental health problems. Many people who abuse drugs do so to self medicate. One of the things that someone tried to turn me onto when I was having problems after that fateful LSD trip was cocaine because I told them I was feeling bad.

But, hey, man. Go ahead. It's not my brain after all.

...I'm sorry, obviously this is an emotional issue to you, but I haven't done any of the aforementioned things in probably 20 years, so I don't have to worry about going ahead and doing it.

I was simply pointing out, by the Oz example you used, that given that time and era - and space - he was in, his brain was fried for many reasons.

Peace.

43. Syd Barrett would be a better example than Ozzy.
Acid made those early Floyd records, but it pushed Sid way over the edge. Of course he probably did a LOT of it. I don't think you can physically OD from Acid, but you can definitely do so mentally.

Not that I'm an expert by any means. Haven't touched the stuff since 1991. If I was going to do a psychedlic again, I'd stick with the shrooms.

3. What scares me into not taking it is:
Edited on Sun Sep-18-05 01:49 AM by TroubleMan
I've been told by very reliable people that sometimes a little can get trapped in your fatty tissues. Let's say at sometime later, you burn off this fat, then you'll trip right then and there.

That's a little too much for me. If I'm gonna get that fucked up, I want it to be in a controlled environment. I can imagine one day I'm driving the kids to school....and BAM!!

Of course I don't know if that's an urban legend or not, but it still makes me not want to use it.

I know thc can build up in your fat cells, but it can't give you a flashback.

I heard acid can be stored there, too, but again that's just hearsay (but it was hearsay from friends who were acid users).

15. No. This is not true.
LSD is a serotonin mimetic and can be thought of as a derivative of the amino acid tryptophan. As such, there are many enzymes that break it down.

27. na i think thats an urban legend
any long-term effects it has is because it permanently alters your brain. its not that the chemical is still in your system, its just that its so powerful it can have long lasting effects.

some of the flashbacks are because of bad trips, like post traumatic stress and anxiety attacks. When something bad happens, people can have reocurring anxiety attacks that produce physical symptoms. Bad experiences with LSD can trigger these too.

I still have minor tracers too, after about 10 years. I still see patterns on wallpapers, flooring tiles. Actually I kinda like it though. For me, my consciousness was permanently altered when i experiemented with psychoactive drugs. Its not distracting to me at all. I feel like I can see things other people can't.

39. This is been my experience as well.
From what I hear from my daughter and her boyfriend(s), acid doses today run about 75-100 micro-grams of the the actual hallucinogen. This is combined with another drug, usually an amphetamine of some sort.
This produces a wide awake yet potent little "trip" if you want to call it that. Back in the "Good Ol Days", (late 60s early 70s), acid strength ran around 1000-2000,(and up) micro-grams of the hallucinogen! That kind of trippen was far more intense and personal.
"Good" is a relative term here, many folks, self included had fun trips and horror trips. Somehow we survived. :hippy:
ps: for anyone reading this: Doing 10x the dosages of todays acid will NOT bring back those earlier mentioned "Good Ol Days". It will make you 10 times as sick due to the extra stuff that todays acid is being "cut" with.

41. Exactly what I had heard.
I heard a story about a couple of guys who are behind bars now. If the story is true then they may have been responsible for a majority of the acid made here in America over the last qtr. century. They became billionaires. They supposedly controlled the quality of the drug, deliberately reducing the potency in order to keep those experimenting with their products from having really bad trips.

14. this is a tough question, one in which i've thought a lot about
Edited on Sun Sep-18-05 02:03 AM by ikhor
i did LSD frequently as a teenager, and in retrospect, i wish i hadnt. But nevertheless, it has made me what i am today. I would still do it, but only in mid 20s or later.

LSD is a powerful drug that can break you. You don't understand this until you have had a powerful trip. You think you understand reality, but then this drug turns reality on its head for 8-12 hours.

If you do decide, make sure you do it with people you absolutely trust, and in a very positive, unconfining, free environment. It lasts up to 12 hours and sometimes longer.

Make sure you get acid that is good and clean.

I forgot to add that i started abusing alcohol because of bad trips.

extacy..........same feeling; no visuals; not as damaging; dosen't last as long; great to talk on; or not; very sensual; very freeing; remember everything you did. No flashbacks.

Edit: the no visuals thing is cool in some instances becuase if an emergency comes up and you need to "function normally" you can.
Edit 2: never had a bad trip; been on/off since 1996.

24. Bullshit.
Edited on Sun Sep-18-05 02:23 AM by lildreamer316
Really. Complete and utter bullshit. I can direct you to numerous sources, but the best summarization is the special Peter Jennings did I believe last fall (one of those Special Reports) called Ecstasy Rising. (I have a VHS copy). If he (your professor) was referring to the "holes in the brain" study; that was debunked because it was discovered said scientist had injected his test monkeys with a meth derivative instead of MDMA. Go to http://www.dancesafe.org/ and scroll down to the box on right that says Site Highlights; click on Your Brain On Ecstasy. Great slide show on how it chemically affects your brain.
For the psychological side; it is just like any other...you have to be mature enough to handle it; and to understand that you are taking an illegal drug--the risks that go with that. The most problems with this drug are 1)Ppl taking it TOO MUCH or TOO OFTEN. Just like anything else; moderation is key.2)Hydration. If you are sitting around at home you are fine. The problem is when kids take it at a rave with 10,000 ppl and dance away the night forgetting to drink water. Dehydration is very dangerous.
Plus side: I have had numerous conversations on this that cleared up alot of angst & problems with other ppl because it COMPLETELY removes your ego from the equation. The great equalizer.
If you need more info or help feel free to PM me.

Edit: the biggest risk is the fact that since it IS illegal; it is cut with some crappy stuff (sometimes coke, meth, other speed, I once got ahold of some really scary stuff that I found out later was LA GLASS.I got a test kit right then!)Know what you are getting.

29. Check that slide show.
That can explain it better than I can. It basically releases all the seratonin in your brain at once; which is wonderful; but then you have to replenish. Alot of ppl pre-load to help themselves out with 5-HTP or/and Vitamin B12; among other things. I also drink Gatorade or somesuch after to help my body recover the electrolytes quicker (so as to help brain production). Again; problems can arise if you get something cut strongly with something else. My test kit is my savior..........

but it certainly does sound like it would be fun to go on a "trip". I've nevere done it.

I've smoked mj and while I have no problems with it (I say legalize the damn thing), it's something I'll probably not do again for many, many years. In fact, I'll probably avoid it for a long time simply because of those Goddamn hair tests at so many places.

That shit (The THC) stays in the hair for three months. I have no idea how long other drugs stay for.

But I'll admit, before I die, I'd like to try acid or LSD.
