Lightning comes from God. |

When we were still colonies, that's what the people believed. If your house was hit by lightning it meant that you had sinned and God was angry with you.
Fire brigades would try and keep surrounding houses from burning, but would not fight the fire in the house hit by lightning. That would be going against God's will.
Interesting program about Ben Franklin on PBS now.
