Little Richard had pipes that would scare the pants off mere mortals. If anyone tried to match him, it'd be their last performance before the laryngectomy.

at least for females, for males I'd have to say Greg from the Dillinger Escape Plan, he can hit 6 octaves, which is impressive to do singing, let alone screaming.

You may want to check their site, (if you have Showtime) for future airings. Otherwise, I would expect it to be released eventually on video/dvd and available as a rental.

17. Well Refused are now defunct (or "fuckin' dead" as they put it)... |
|
But Dennis has The (International) Noise Conpiracy, sort of a garage punk sound, and The Lost Patrol, a folk project, but Refused were a great political hardcore band from Sweden.
Alexisonfire is a hardcore band from Ontario and George's screams are balanced with their singer, Dallas', melodic voice. Nice combination if you're into that type of music.
Both have amazing screams in my opinion.

The remastered and expanded versions of the early Stooges (The Stooges and Fun House) albums are out on CD now. They're an absolute must if you enjoy Iggy's work.
Now if someone would just remaster and rerelease Metallic KO. I think that you can still get an import version from Amazon.

60. I don't think there is really anything to remaster on Metallic KO... |
|
it was taken from a board tape and essentially consists of what was running through the PA (Iggy's voice and Scotty's piano) The guitar , bass, and drums are bleeding into those mikes. Musically it is pretty worthless (The Stooges were capable of so much more), but it is still highly entertaining :)

I used to have the single-disk American version of Metallic KO on vinyl many, MANY years ago. Then I had a friend hook me up with a cassette copy of the 2-disk reissue. The expanded version is even more hilarious.
I agree, the sound quality is shit, but the energy is still there to some degree. Their version of "Louie, Louie" still stands as one of the finest moments of trash-rock history. Guess I'll just invest in the CD copy of the reissue and be done with it.

many people dismiss it because James Williamson would assemble the songs and production during the week, and check Iggy out of the NPI on the weekends in order to lay down the vocals. Soundwise it has always weirdly reminded me of a John Lennon record of the time. Harrowing and self-absorbed vocals/lyrics set atop "conventional" rock. It is also one of my favorite Iggy solo records. Solo Iggy , to my ears, always works best when he is paired with a very strong producer/personality. Another example: David Bowie's production, composition, and playing on "The Idiot" I feel that it Iggy's best solo work by far. With his contributions, Bowie gave Iggy a wonderful gift, and certainly paid back any "debts" that he may have owed him

Of course by Dave's own admission, it wasn't entirely original. He was asked in early interviews if he stole the scream from Ian Gillan of Deep Purple.
"Hell no! I stole that scream from James Brown baby! I'm just a black man trapped in a Jewish body."

71. Who could possibly match Little Richard or Jerry Lee Lewis! |
|
How they could have both performed in the same millennium is incredible. We baby-boomers were particularly fortunate to have them screetching during our youth.
Oddly enough, I'd only been thinking earlier this evening about those characteristics of outrageous flamboyance and wild elan of Americans in those days - the fifties and sixties - as I watched those hilarious guys who build choppers in the cable programme, "American Chopper". In those days days, I should think just about every working man could have afforded to buy a Harley or some kind of chopper and many did. And, of course, yankee drags (as American cars were known as, here) all looked a bit like stretch limos then. If you've got it, flaunt it(!), didn't have quite the negative connotation it has today, with such a grim and widespread polarisation of the country's wealth.
It's great to hear the bickering between the old man and the younger generation in that workshop. Absolutely hilarious. My late brother (and a million other blokes, I dare say) would have given his eye-teeth to have worked in that place, as he seemed to derive great pleasure in stripping down his bike and putting it together again. And he'd have absolutely revelled in the humour.

Courtney Love. She screams entire songs sometimes with no real lyrics (I'm not talking about all her songs either, just some live improv I have heard). Sounds oddly good when she does it. I normally hate screaming singers, but she's great.
