It looks awesome!

I am really nervous that the movie is going to be terrible, because the Narnia books are among my best childhood memories.

But if the commercial I saw is any indication, it looks like they are going to do a good job.

I sure hope so.

Anybody else have any thoughts?

1. They showed the previews at "Revenge of the Sith" and "War of the Worlds"
Narnia really looks awesome. I remember feeling like a kid again watching the preview for a movie I figured would be "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" at a movie I went to so I could feel like a kid again....LOL.

:hi:

3. I'm just worried that it's going to be co-opted by the Republicans
A la The Passion of the Christ.

I hope that doesn't keep me from seeing it...

4. Disney is making it, so it should be okay
Not that the right won't have problems with it.

5. I'm expecting the right to take credit for it
Seeing as it's a very thinly veiled allegory for Christianity.

If it performs well at the box office, I'm sure they'll try to use it as a demonstration of some sort of mandate for Christian extremism, etc.

6. The series IS a Christian story
C.S. Lewis stated flat out that the Chronicles of Narnia were written as Christian parable. Lewis himself had a Doctor of Divinity degree from St. Andrews, and wrote many stories and gave many lectures about the superiority of Christianity over naturalism in his later life.

Supposedly, his estate wanted to ensure that the Christian allegory wasn't lost in this film conversion, so you probably will see it if you look for it. Like the book, however, the story is excellent anyway, and succeeds even without the Christian undercurrent. Many non-Christians read the books and never even realize what it was written for.

11. I don't know how one could miss it
It's a pretty didactic book -- and the cinematic treatment will likely be more so.

7. Actually, Disney just does marketing and distribution here.
The film itself was produced by Walden Media and directed by Andrew Adamson, who also directed both "Shrek" movies.

10. Hey, Shine, welcome to DU!
I can't wait to see it myself. But I am kind of a fantasy movie geek...Loved LOTR trilogy, love the Harry Potter series.

13. WETA digital did a great job with the effects.
I dislike the Narnia series for a variety of reasons, (the ending of the last book is particularly terrible) but the effects look wonderful. Peter Jackson's studio is what George Lucas wishes he could be. :)
