Point to point software and bit torrent |
|
I trek into the lounge to see what people are using for point to point software. I use Kazaa some but have read that it has spyware. What is a good P2P software? I kind of understand bit torrent, but can anyone explain if an average Joe should start using it and the software you would use?
Does anyone fear being sued by the entertainment companies for swapping movies or songs? It kind of bothers me. That is why I am so novice in my questions?

Pay the few bucks for the souped-up version. It's really good.

With Bit Torrent you have to know where to look to get things rolling. But once you do it tends to be much quicker.
Bit Torrent is based on the idea of shared work. The initial file (or seed) is downloaded by others. But its not done in a sequential manner. That is it doesn't come down to each person as a linear series of bits. Each person gets a different bit. The software then begins looking to the various downloaders and grabbing bits from them as well. Since each person has a different bit the work is distributed. Lather rince repeat.
In this way from a single source you can rapidly distribute to multiple users. This is why they ask you to remain connected even after your download has finished. Its because you are increasing the speed for the entire group. You are sharing the burden.

6. Is the advantage of bit torrent the speed of downloads? |
|
Is bit torrent faster because it comes from multiple sources and no need of linear assembly? And is there a forum that allows you to talk about file names for downloading and stuff certifiable in the public domain? The copyright police are not something I want to engage.

Bit Torrent is a major factor in the anime world. Because there is a legal limbo for material uncopyrighted in the states fansubs are quickly made and distributed of shows in Japan. Once a license is established in the US the first providers pull their copies off the net. Then it goes underground.
Bit Torrent is usefull for specific purposes. There are websites all over dedicated to listing the current trackers for the various downloads. There are communities for other media besides anime. But you will have to dig around yourself for those as its not really my means of getting that stuff. Still using P2P for music and music vids.
