18. It's funny, because my father is a diehard Starr fan...and he is
always comparing him to Brett (almost impossible...two different styles), but as we watch the game he'll say things out of the corner of his mouth like..."Lombardi would have benched him for that..." It cracks me up.

5. Bring on the rook!
But seriously,I think the one problem with the Redskins is the total lack of imagination offensively. I look at other games on Sundays, and it seems like EVERY team besides ours has a downfield passing game. But what do I see the Skins' do? Try to go down the field 5 yards at a time.
Joe Gibbs is the man,but I'm starting to wonder if he should go looking for his missing balls.

23. His arm is shot and he should have retired two years ago
Edited on Mon Sep-19-05 10:14 PM by Awsi Dooger
The most vital statistical indicator for an NFL QB is yards per attempt, not overall QB rating. Not even close. The YPPA stat reveals how accurate you are and whether you can get the ball down the field, an absolute necessity in this league.

Brunell's arm steadily declined and it was never great to begin with. It's gotten to the point his yards per attempt is embarrassing, not NFL caliber. Check out Brunell's lifetime numbers here, specifically the column title Y/A, meaning yards per attempt: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/BrunMa00.htm

The sharp and steady decline since '96, and especially since 2001, is startling. At 5.0 last year Brunell was worst in the league along with Eli Manning, obviously a rookie overcoming growing pains.

27. Yeah, I saw that
Too bad because I always liked Brunell dating to his Husky days. I rooted for Jacksonville in the playoffs several times but they always came up a bit short.

The selfish positive aspect for me as a sports bettor is just betting against the Redskins and under the total every week while Brunell starts. I did that last week vs. Chicago and again tonight. It forces the Redskins to score more than their projected point total, and I'm more than willing to challenge a guy who had 5 yards per attempt last year to put up some decent points.

32. Strangely, Ramsey declined in yards per attempt also
He was above average for a rookie at 6.8, then fell to 6.4 and last year 6.1.: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/RamsPa00.htm The reference point is generally 7.0, above that considered very good.

That's very odd for a player progressing to his 2nd and 3rd year. It lends some credence to the the theory Gibbs' offensive system just isn't up to contemporary NFL standards, looking downfield first. I always thought Ramsey had a good arm but too line drive prone. Not enough variety of pace and loft. That was evident even at Tulane. The kid from Auburn can throw every type of pass but he tended to lock onto his intended receiver in college.

33. Yeah, the offense is extremely conservative.
There were a few 3rd and longs last week where they would throw horizontal, or run. No way to make a first down on those plays.

I honestly think Ramsey just has more spirit than Brunell. He might make more mistakes, but he also makes more plays. If you don't make any plays, then mistakes cost more.

the Philly area for 15 of those 22 years and have never wavered. I have always been a steadfast Skins fan, but I just can't take it anymore.

I hate Daniel Snyder. Jack Kent Cooke Stadium should never have been renamed Fed Ex Field. Brunell sucks. So does Ramsey.

I'm going to practice 'Fly Eagles Fly' and finally hop on that bandwagon.

If Gibbs wasn't back, I'd probably be gone.

It's tough to be a Skins fan in Philly.

Allow me to curse Roy Williams, who loves to hit but may be the most overstated cover man in the league. Now I'm sitting on a damn push.

At least for tonight. And if Roy Williams makes the Pro Bowl they might as well rename it the Ryan Leaf pro Bowl.
