I just got some great news!

I lost touch with my best friend from high school a couple of years ago. The last time I saw her, she had been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, and had already lived longer than the doctors thought she would. I looked online for her, but with no luck. Given the amount of time that passed, I thought she was gone.

Tonight, I got an e-mail from the head of a Dem organization that I am Secretary of. My friend had apparently found my name on the website, and contacted him, leaving her phone number for me to call. It's too late for me to call her now, of course. Tomorrow, I get to talk to her again. :bounce: :bounce:

We were labeled "The Strange Girls With Trees on Their Heads". We didn't follow fashion trends, and we didn't care what other people said. We had fun.

I lost a friend to Cystic Fibrosis last year. Well, complications thereof. She'd had a heart-lung transplant, did fine for years, got a little infection and... very sad.

It's an awful disease. I've read that some new research is showing very promising results. I hope we can cure this one quickly.

I know my friend said (years ago) that she had spent time in an iron lung on more than one occasion.

it's an unimaginably horrible disease.

My mother used to talk about a kid with it when she was a teenager, and her and her sister would go over every day and literally pound on his chest for an hour, front and back, to loosen up the mucus. That was the treatment back then.

Genetic therapy is showing a lot of promise here, and they can't find the cure soon enough. I wish your friend the very best.

Just a little younger than mine. They don't deserve to lose their mother.

We lived at each other's houses on weekends and during the summer. After school if possible, but her parents ran a store and she was on the register most days.

She sounded good, upbeat, and like she's staying busy. One of her kiddos is supposed to go to Texas Children's in the Med Ctr Friday and Monday, they plan to make the trip unless they are told not to. I told her to keep an eye on things, don't drive into Rita. We talked for a while, but she had to go. I'm calling her again tomorrow.
