About that Right Brain/Left Brain test yesterday...
...does anyone here have any more? I am dumbquizzled and disastisfied with my score. I am NOT left-brain dominant, GODDAMNIT! Seriously, this is kind of giving me a complex. I'm having enough trouble creating my art, I need someone to direct me to potential proof that that other test was wrong, wrong, wrong. I'm an artist, and have always been told that I HAD to be a right-brainer. Finding out that I'm not is kinda messing with me, help!

1. There was one question on there I couldn't answer. I was bad at
both.

2. Are you talking about the one I posted last week?
What kind of art do you do?

3. It was last WEEK? Okay, then that's the one.
I'm a writer. At the moment, I'm focusing on my fiction, but I'm also a published poet. A good one. One who was always told her images, imagery and adjectival choices were extremely unusual. But that silly test told me I wasn't just left brain dominant and I was 100% left brain! That. Makes. No. Sense. So, I want to take another one.

4. Left brain, right brain, who cares?
Don't let some stupid test tell you something that contradicts something you know about your own nature. You know yourself better than the smegging test does! And scientists don't know everything either.

5. Why should that be incompatible with being left-brain dominant?
Left-brain dominance means highly verbal, detail-oriented, etc. I'm something of a writer and poet myself, and I'm highly left-brain dominant (and given to highly specific imagery and unusual simile and metaphor and idiosyncratic use of adjectives in my writing, too).

8. Excellent. That's good to know.
There was another poster here who is also a writer, got the same results I did, had the same learning styles and abilities/disabilities, (no gift for other languages, inability to "do" math, particularly arithmatic in her head) and also felt quite comfortable and successful in regard to her writing.

6. Here, try this one
http://painting.about.com/library/quiz/blquiz-rightbrain1.htm

An artist can be either right or left. If you are a writer, you would be more left brain anyway. If it said you are all left, then you would most likely be a great writer. I am really right brained and me putting concepts to paper is about as easy for me as giving birth.

I am a songwriter and I have heard I am pretty good at it. I haven't been able to write a song in quite a while, but yet the other test had me as 15 right and 3 left.

You should look into it more.

12. Left-brain dominant.
But PHEW! It was only by a twelve-eight split between left and right. The thing is, I was conflicted on many answers--indicating to me that I might be more in the middle than either of those tests reflect. Still can't believe my left wins out, though, considering that whole "can't do math" factor. I'd always read that this was the key indicator of right-brain dominance.

13. Sorry about this last one
I didn't read it all the way through, it's mainly for painters. I think what the other people on here are telling you is worth reading.

There is nothing wrong with being more left brained and I wish I was a little more left brained than I am. It really is a pain in the ass in places like DU. I write a post and it gets taken completely different than I meant it to and then I get nailed for what I said. And my grammar skills aren't really what people expect them to be and that goes for spelling too.

From now on when I get shit for my grammar, spelling or inability to get my point across to 100% of the people here I am going to start alerting on those people and claimed I was discriminated against by a bunch of "right brain" bigots...lol. "They hate me 'cause I'm right brained".

14. Ha! I never thought of it that way. Maybe you should get a button made.
You know, "Right-brained and proud" or something.

7. Quizzes don't really matter, BlueIris.
I paint for a living and I'm apparent slightly left-brain dominant. Don't matter much to me one way or the other.

My score:
You answered 8 items out of 20 as right brained.

Your score is 40%. Your left brain is slightly dominant.

11. Ah, don't worry - I'm an artist, and I'm left dominant
Especially for writing, left brain is very helpful - I'd say that's why you are able to get the imagery you get. That's a left brain thing.

I think you're stuck on the "left brain means cold, unemotional scientist" and "right brain means expressive, dramatic good artist" idea, which isn't true.

There is no shame in being on the same brain side as scientists and mathematicians. It's not a contest or a war.

I paint, compose music, sing, play music, and write -- and I'm left brain dominant.

Don't worry about it.
