I just asked one of my students if he was chilling out with his homos. |
|
He wasn't amused. Teenagers are so easy to antagonize. {insert evil grin smily here}

1. You should be careful with comments like that |
|
especially to a student.
It could come back to bite you in the ass later.

I thought as a teacher I was supposed to push the envelope a little.

12. So homo is offensive, but homosexual is not? |
|
Isn't just a shortened version?

6. Because I can antagonize them AND make them think about language usage |
|
By the time kids are done with me, they're much more aware of how language is used by others and how they themselves use language. Plus they end up with a stonger sense of the ironic. It's a basic college skill, I think.

9. So, you antagonize them by insulting them as "HOMOS" ?? |
|
And you don't see that doing that by itself is homophobic?

7. So... do you just like to watch... or do you find this offensive too? |
|
Or, since you're not gay... maybe that's why you don't find it offensive, so you will instead just eat popcorn. I'm confused.

11. i like to insert popcorn smilies into threads that are going to turn |
|
into flamewars. yes, i found this language usage to be a bit "risque" at best, but I didn't feel like taking up the argument myself as i knew that others would, and i prefered to be the first in the thread to utilize the oh-so-popular "popcorn" smilie. does that make me such a bad person?

13. Not bad... it just concerned me. |
|
I see something that is offensive, and even if it's not offensive to me personally, I can understand it being offensive to others.
Never mind, STM... This thread has just pissed me off... you aren't bad.

Yes, I can see why he was antagonized. Probably because he doesn't want to hear some homophobic remark.
