So I had to kill a Copperhead yesterday (stupid dog)
I walk out of my house yesterday and my dog follows. She spots a juvenile copperhead eating a small lizard and decides it's a good idea to go sniff the damned thing. :eyes:

The snake finished up the lizard and was prepared to defend itself against my beagle's nose, so I had to trap it with a broom handle and chase the dog inside. Well, I pushed too hard and mortally wounded the damned thing, so I had to finish it off.

Not that the snake would have survived long around my yard anyways - there are quite a few predatory cats around, but I hated killing that one - it was so small.

3. Small now becomes big later.
I understand though. I don't kill snakes at all, but my husband, who is a landscaper and comes across them often, kills them b/c they just can't take any chances. You tried, that's all you can do.

7. True.
But like I said, many snakes are hunted by the neighborhood cats, so we don't really have a snake problem, where we definitely would without them (very wooded area).

11. Yeah, you just can't take any chances.
Even the babies are pretty venomous. We have lots of snakes around my parts. The venomous ones are usually easy to distinguish. We don't kill the non-venomous ones, but the poisonous ones could easily take out any of my dogs, or me for that matter.

13. that's why I was worried about my 25 pound dog.
I'd be OK if it bit me (it is just a copperhead), but I wasn't sure about my small dog.

14. Right. The dog may not have stood a chance, but
I wouldn't say it's just a copperhead. Although they have the mildest venom, you could still lose the use of the area it bit. Just sayin'! :hi:
