Poll question: Burial, cremation or something else? |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-13-03 03:46 PM by Padraig18
It's an extremely personal decision, and I won't bias the poll by stating my preference until later. If you want, by all means say what you prefer and why, but try to do so without 'bashing' a different choice.
Thanks! :)

but if that's not an option I want the best and most boisterous wake possible, with plenty of music, drink and food....what happens to the rest of me after that doesn't matter to me at all,at all:)

Myself, I'm making no plans to die. Look, it's not in the dayplanner, so it won't happen. :)
I'd like to be cremated, and my ashes slipped into the coffeemakers of my enemies.

4. As my dear, old granny said... |
|
... a wake they'll talk about for years, followed by something extremely brief and humane--- 10 -15 minutes is the perfect length for the service, she said. Oh, she had one other admonition: "Mention me by my full name at least once, so people don't think you're burying the family pet."

No offense, since you're deceased as this point in the scenario.

Donate: I want to know that I can help others live, even after I'm gone. There is no more noble gesture than to give of one's own body to save the life of another. O8)
Memorial: Because the selfish side wants everyone to rejoice in the wondrous entity that was ME!!!

then direct cremation. A boisterous wake would be nice as well.
I am not religious but I like the idea of the interconnectedness of the universe. I've always found this poem comforting.
Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the mornings hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die...

because it matters not in the slightest to me what happens to the shell when I leave it behind. Use it for dogfood, I don't care. It won't matter to me, I'm not planning on taking it anywhere after I wear it out.

I always thought this stuff was morbid and silly, but mom died earlier this year, and I now see the value of having a nice little spot, or whatever pleases you. Nothing ostentatious, of course.
We purchased a couple of niches side-by-side, so my mom's in one parking space, my brother will go into another, and my wife and I will join up later. It's weird (but also comforting, in a way) to have it all planned out so early, but my dad died when he was still quite young, and it was a huge mess for others to straighten out.
So, my organs will go where they're most needed, the rest can be cremated, and a few folks can gather, hoist a few and share some good laughs. I insist that there be laughter!
But it must be noted that I am in *no* hurry whatsoever to get there!!!

with a small service - with bagpiper. I have instructed a friend to learn how to play Sgt. McKenzie (a Clann an Drumma song).
There will probably be a small gathering - and I've instructed my daughter that there should be excellent food and music, and that any hypocrites who hated me in life, but show up at my funeral should be shown the door. My daughter thinks I'm nuts.

29. Aagghh! No Maggots, Please, No Maggots!! |
|
Burn me at once. Forget about the proprieties, just stick my remains in a carboard box and incinerate me. Then scatter my ashes on the wind.
Next best thing is to allow me be to consumed by vultures. I rather like the idea of my corpse being consumed by birds. Tribes in India and Tibet take this practical approach to Corpse Removal. It's clean. It's fast. Only parched bones are left, and one has paid one's Karmic Debt to our avian buddies.
I DON"T want to pumped full of chemicals, stuck in an over-priced box and lowered into a grave for maggots to eat.
I prefer a cleaner end.
